Had a game last night of 1,500 points, small than usual as I usually play 2,000. Would be different I guess. I was Iron Warriors, Luke who I usually play against took Tyranids. This is a re-match from when I first met Luke many months ago. It was a draw as I had to bail game (Luke claims a win! lol), though I will say I think he would have had the game due to my lack of tactics. I'm hoping this time the game will turn out differently.

This battle report is from memory, I've slept since the game so might have missed stuff off. I also don't know all the bio morphs on the tyranids either.

Game of annhilation and pitched battle, Iron Warriors rolled to go first.

Iron Warriors

1 x Daemon Prince - MoN & warptime

5 x Chaos Terminators - 4 x combi plasma & 1 x chain fist

10 x Chaos Marines w/ Rhino - 2 x meltaguns - champ w/ power fist

10 x Chaos Marines w/ Rhino - 2 x meltaguns

10 x Chaos Marines w/ Rhino - 2 x plasma guns

1 x Defiler - dccw & heavy flamer

1 x Defiler - dccw & heavy flamer

2 x Obliterators

Tyranids

1 x Hive Tyrant - wings & 2 x scything talons

1 x Hive Tyrant - 2 x devourers

1 x Carnifex - 2 x devourers

1 x Carnifex - barbed strangler & scything talons

8 x Gaunts - fleshborers

8 x Gaunts - fleshborers

10 x Genestealers - feeder tendrils

10 x Genestealers - feeder tendrils

3 x Zoanthropes

1 x Carnifex - barbed strangler & scything talons

1 x Carnifex - 2 x scything talons & toxic miasma

Turn 1

Iron warriors moved forward, daemon prince took cover behind the power fist rhino squad and followed it forward, it stopped between two terrain pieces and popped smoke. Defiler flanking it moved 6". Plasma rhino moved forward 12" stops between terrain pieces and pops smoke, defiler flanks behind it and uses the rhino for cover. The other melta rhino follows it, but is blocked by LOS by a central large building.

Obliterators in a ruin in the left corner target a zoanthrope and fire lascannons, score two hits two wounds and the 'thrope fails both saves earning I.W's first kill point. Defiler flanking the plasma squad fires at the large tyranid mass, scatters and misses. Defiler flanking the prince and power fist squad kills a couple of gaunts.

Tyranids move forward, some using the special move through cover rule to go through terrain quicker.

The devil-tyrant and his buddie, the dakka fex fire on the daemon prince, the prince still stands with 2 wounds after several hits. Both fexs fire barbed stranglers at the prince and both miss.

Turn 2

Daemon prince flies forward and gets in the face of the devil tyrant, supporting defiler moves forward but rhino stays put. Plasma rhino moves round the side of the large centre ruin, melta rhino attempts to go through it and rolls a 1 for dangerous terrain and is immobilsed! Squad bail out and moe through difficult terrain instead.

Defiler flanking the plasma rhino fires at some gaunts, shot scatters and lands on the daemon prince and devil tyrant! Both make their invulnerable saves after being wounded. Obliterators spot the dakka fex through the large hole in the centre ruin, fire lascannons and score two wounds. Plasma squad fire at the dakka fex and miss! Melta squad now in terrain fire meltaguns at the dakka fex and no hits! Power fist squad fire meltas at the dakka fex and again miss and score no wounds! Defiler flanking power fist rhino runs forward.

In assault the daemon prince charges the devil tyrant, scores no wounds and takes one leaving it with one wound left. Defiler charges a zoanthrope and kills it after it fails its invulnerable saves. The defiler consolidates 5" back towards its own table edge. Two kill points to Iron Warriors!

Tyranids swarm forward and pretty much everything which is close combat ready swarms the daemon prince.

Defiler which killed the zoanthrope is popped and wrecked, scores Tyranids there first kill point!

In assault the daemon prince remembers to cast warptime this time, though is killed and another kill point for the bugs. The power fist rhino is charged by the ninja fex and a strangler fex and wreck it, giving the bugs a 3-2 lead.

Turn 3

Reinforcements are called in and teleport behind tyranid lines, they scatter into some genestealers, but luckily are delayed on the deep strike mishap table.

The power fist squad move through terrain right by the face of the ninja fex. The plasma rhino moves 6" forward into terrain to draw LOS through the big hole in the ruin on the bugs the other side. The melta squad on foot move through terrain and eye up the dakka fex the other side of the ruin. The defiler takes a terrain test and smashes its way through some scenery and also pops smoke.

Power fist squad fire meltas and bolt pistols and put three wounds on the ninja fex, leaving it with one left. Plasma squad rapid fires out the top of the hatch but only puts one wound on the devil tyrant :( . Defiler fires at some gaunts, shot scatters and lands on genestealers and the devil tyrant, devil tyrant isn't wounded but three genestealers are killed. Obliterators charge up plasma cannons and fire at the same gaunt unit the defiler eyed up, they hit and score several wounds.

In assault the power fist squad charge the ninja fex, three marines are lost but the ninja fex is slayed and evens the kill points.

A unit of genestealers and gaunts swarm through terrain towards the power fist squad. One strangler fex smashes its way through the centre large ruin and is in the face of the plasma rhino. The other unit of genestealers move through terrain and eye up the melta gun squad, the wing tyrant moves to assault the same squad along with the battered gaunt unit from plasma fire. The rest of the monsters hid behind the centre ruin.

In the shooting phase the gaunts going after the power fist squad kill one chaos marine. The strangler fex fires at the rhino, the shot scatters and lands on some gaunts and kills two. The other strangle fex fires at the defiler, shot scatters and does no damage.

In assault the gaunts and genestealers assault the power fist squad, gaunts take a few wounds but the power fist squad is wiped out giving 4-3 kill points to the bugs. The winged tyrant, genestealers and gaunts assault the meltagun squad and kill them all giving them 5 kill points. The strangle fex charges the plasma rhino and wrecks it, mass kill points for tyranids making it 5-3.

Turn 4

The chaos terminators arrive from reserve and deep strike behind the winged hive tyrant.

The defiler mooches forward, ready to light up the carnifex with heavy flamer. Plasma squad moves through cover and aims at the low count genestealer squad which just killed the melta squad.

Defiler fires the heavy flamer at the strangle fex but scores no wounds, obliterators fire lascannons and score two wounds on the strangle fex. Plasma marines rapid fire at the genestealers and kill them scoring a kill point making it 5-4. Chaos terminators rapid fire combi plasma, one terminator is killed from gets hot but the winged tyrant is killed making it 5-5.

In assault the defiler charges the carnifex, both kill each other making it 6-6.

In the last tyranid movement phase the last genestealer unit moves into terrain by the plasma squad along with the devil tyrant. Gaunts move towards the chaos terminators direction along with the last zoanthrope.

In the shooting phase the devil fex, gaunts and zoanthrope fire at the chaos terminators but only score one wound.

In assault the genestealers and gaunts in the centre ruin charge the plasma squad, several gaunts are killed but two chaos marines still stand!

The kill point total was 7-7 in the end, so I've missed something off so result is a DRAW.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it was a draw too. However, if the magical world of war would have allowed an 8th turn you really didn't have much left to hurt me with... Oh well. If's buts & maybe's aside it was a good game.
You got my list a bit upside down.

I had 2 Boomfex's as Elites as well as the Dakka. (or devil as I prefer to call him). So X3 Elites.
Had 2 groups of 16 Gaunts & 2 groups of 8 Stealers.
Only 2 Heavy support - Carnifex & Zoanthropes.
& the rest of the point were used up on the CC Carnifex & Flyrant.
Doesn't really matter though. You seem to have covered most stuff in the explanation.
Do you think anyone else will ever read your report?

Nice one Mark.

Good report ;D

I have the same strangler luck as the Tyranid player here. \

Crap.

Writing internet fiction is kind of like throwing out messages in bottles into a churning sea composed entirely of messages in bottles, the chances of of your message getting noticed and someone being sent out to rescue you is punishingly slim. But every once in a blue moon, someone who owns a big boat made of money finds your message and agrees to let you ride on his big boat made of money as long as you keep making messages for him.

Because Matt Ward didn't write our Codex. Otherwise we would have had Scything Tyrants with Scything Nidfists that can re-roll re-rolls and that can have a bodyguard of 10 Scything Guards and a Scything Prime that could ride in a Scything Pod. Or something to that effect.

TBH dude I think if it would have gone on another two turns you would have won. I had one terminator left, two chaos marines and two obliterators. Terminator may have smacked down on those gaunts, but what would I have done then? You would have just used the building to block LOS and thats it. I'm glad it ended when it did, and I enjoyed the game

Thanks for the heads up on the list. I'll make amends

Nice report..barbed strangles always irritate me, despite my 3+ csm power armour saves.

"And what are the achievements of your fragile Imperium? It is a corpse rotting slowly from within while maggots writhe in its belly. It was built with the toil of heroes and giants, and now it is inhabited by frightened weaklings to whom the glories of those times are half-forgotten legends."

I think the stranglers only fired three times per game and did more damage to their own side than mine

Stranglers are delicious, if only to throw pie plates back at the gaurd.

Also, nice review!
