OK..

I am working on the new Space Wolf army .. wanting it to be different than the standard color scheme..

I decided to go with a base coat of "terra cotta" paint, washed with Devlan Mud... the base itself is a dark red/brown, GW color "Dark Flesh"

I want to do something on the base to put a separation between the 2 similar colors. My criteria is..

1. Nothing duplicating my other armies.. I want this base to be unique to this force.
this rules out
Green flock on bestial brown
grey/white gravel on scortched brown
pale green sand on goblin green
red sand on snakebite leather
brown/gray gravel on graveyard earth..

2. It has to be easy to apply, ideally 1 step.. spread glue and cover after figure is painted

any ideas folks?

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

Order of St Ursula (Sisters of Battle): W-2, L-1, T-1
Get of Freki (Space Wolves): W-3, L-1, T-1
Hive Fleet Portentosa (Nids/Stealers): W-6, L-4, T-0
Omega Marines (vanilla Space Marine): W-1, L-6, T-2
Waagh Magshak (Orks): W-4, L-0, T-1
A.V.P.D.W.: W-0, L-2, T-0

Do a ash waste, it would provide some nice contrast to the all brown, and you could even leave the base rims black.

Just cover the base with sand, basecoat it black, then drybrush it with codex grey and then a lighter drybrush of fortress grey and your done.

You could add in some odd miniature bits under the sand here and there for some more interesting bases.

Under the couch

Ice would seem appropriate... and would give a lovely contrast to the darker armour.

You can make sheet ice with flat pieces of putty smoothed into shape, and then painted with ice blue and white. Or pick up some clear plastic 'rocks' (for putting in vases or candle bowls) from a discount store.

I like to the generic GW style dirt and static grass method
put on sand=>paint khemri brwon=>paint 50/50 scorched brown/ khemri=>wash devlan=>glue on static grass clups

Here a quick way of doing snow. It's not a one easy step, but once you got the mix made it shouldn't take you long to do the bases.

I've actually got a SW army that is painted in similar colors as yours. Built and painted it back in 3rd edition. Good to see another one

I did a light brown very rocky sand base with just a few tufts of static grass.

Don't know if it helps. More than anything, was just cool to see more brown wolves..
