I had this idea for an Apoc Datasheet which is basically an upgrade for a CCS which consists of a group of Guardsmen all with Vox-casters, designed to relay more orders than usual.

Imperial Vox Array
Points: 50+Models+Company Command Squad
Models: 1-5 Guardsmen all with Lasguns and Vox-casters, frag and krak grenades at 20pts each.

Special Rules: Enhanced Comms: The Company Command Squad which is attached to the Vox Array may increase their command radius by 6" for each Guardsman in the Vox Array. The increased radius may only be used by squads which contain a Vox-caster. If there are 5 models in the Vox Array, then the Command Squad may issue D3 extra orders at any unit within the original command radius. These follow all the restrictions for regular orders.

"Anyone there?": If the Vox-Array is wiped out, every unit which cannot draw LoS to the Vox-Array's previous position must take a Morale check or fall back, as the comms suddenly fall silent for no explanations. Fearless units are immune to this ability.

What are your thoughts on this formation?

Thanks,

Valkyrie

Maybe specify that the radius is only increased when drawing the distance to another squad that has a Vox operator.

No matter how many guys have Vox-casters, the officer isn't gonna be able to shout 36" inches.

The problem is that only a few units have access to Vox (pretty much just Infantry Squads, Command Squads, and Vets), so it seems overcosted.

OR

Maybe each model bought lets the Officer issue an order from any Chimera on the table (with a 6/12-inch range). That might work better?

EDIT FOR CLARITY: The Vox Array lets the Officer substitute any Chimera for himself/his own Chimera for purposes of orders radius.

The idea of the unit was to allow orders to be relayed over a larger area. He isn't shouting them, the Vox Array is acting as a hub of communications on the battlefield

Yeah, I got that.

But my impression was always that Vox-casters worked like walkie-talkies or radios. If I have one and you don't, you're not going to be able to hear me if you're out of earshot.

If you were talking about something more like a speaker system, then your idea seems fine to me, and I apologize for misinterpreting you.

I don't think more vox casters will increase range. Maybe a more powerful one. How about similar rules but instead two men carry one big vox caster and are treated as a heavy weapon team in all aspects. Bigger range means bigger vox, not more radios.

You should make the CCS be able to issue orders as though they were any one of the models in the vox-array

Quoted from "The Defenestrator":
"Yes, I don't buy into the goody goody image the Tau PR machine has churned out . They're all dirty cold-blooded space-communists if you ask me! Besides, their shiny, selfless "we love everyone for the Greater Good" vibe is so unfitting for the "lulz we're all badass jerks" future of 40k. GW needs to play up their cold, calculating, "join us or die, and probably still die anyway" Borg-y style. That's just me of course."

I don't get what you mean. The CCS issue the orders as normal, expect that the command raduis is increased because of the Vox-Array
