Hey I am currently putting together a grey knight army. Gonna use a grey knight hero and either kind of inquisitor. A group of grey knight terminators and assassin for elites. A group of dreads for support and power armor knights for troops. My question is how can I outfit my inquisitor, which one reg or lord and what kind of retinue. I'll be generally waiting for the enemy to come to me, get in as much shooting as I can and then charge when they come to me. Help me out please

If you are taking a Grey Knight Hero already give him the psychic hood as he is leadership 10.

You then can save points and take the elite Inquisitor with
Psycannon, Targeter, Sage, 2 Mystics, Emperor's Tarot and your choice of either
1. 3 Heavy Bolter Servitors
2. 2 heavy Bolter Servitors, 1 Plasma cannon Servitor and second sage.

BS5 Psycannon because of sage is pretty good vs daemons like Fateweaver who only have an invulnerable save as well as Eldar Warlocks on foot.
2 Mystics gives you anti deepstrike
Emperor's Tarot gives you a +1 to go first
Targeter lets you premeasure your range.

The Plasma Cannon servitor and second sage are expensive but if you play against marines alot it is pretty good versus clumped marines from a destroyed transport you get to reroll the scatter with 2 sages if you don't get a hit or small scatter the first time. Otherwise just go with the cheaper 3 heavy bolters.

if your taking an inquistor he seems like mainly a long range artillery platoon (servitors and a sage it hink what it's called) or just a 20 pt thing for my list to get some special stuff =P

"When life gives you lem-BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD"
1500 pt nurgle daemons bleeeeh 2/0/2 but what fun they are when they win

In my daemonhunters army, I run an Inquisitor with Sanctuary and 2 Mystics. For 47 points he is an Autowin button against daemons and all other deep-strike based armies. He isn't meant for combat of any kind, and he doesn't do any direct damage to anyone. He gets killed by a strong breeze and gives up 2 kill points (character + retinue) so you have to be careful with him. Of course, the unit only has 3 models in it, so blocking LOS is very easy. If I'm not playing against daemons or deep strikers I'll keep him in reserve.

Kirika's options sounds the best for the firebase i am looking for. Does the plasma cannon still get hot on gun servitors? Besides that i think thats a pretty solid setup for me. Any other retinues you guys have had success with?

Bring 2 mystics. I can't stress this enough. They will make deep strikers cry.

2 mystics (for deep strikers), 3 Gun Servitors (2 Heavy and One Plasma) and a sage (increase ws?). Thats a 6 man retinue so i could still take a regular inquisitor instead of a lord. Is the lord worth it? Do i need a lord to take hood?

Also i think this type of gun base works best for the play style im aiming for. One psycannon and three other heavy weapons with a sage and two mystics should make me effective and ward of deep strikers.

Sage gives the inquisitor +1 BS.

You only need an Inquisitor Lord if you're not bringing an Brother-Captain. The BC has LD10 so he's the one who should get the hood. You can stick the Inquisitor in the Elites slot because his LD doesn't really matter.

If you're going to use this list in a tournament, I'd suggest giving your Inquisitor sanctuary. It's an auto-win against daemons. For friendly play, I wouldn't use it for the same reason. No Daemons player will want to play you.

If you go the shooty route for your inquisitor squad, and you take a plasma cannon, take a second sage. The reroll on the scatter will average a lot more damage than, say, another HB if you are tight on spots. The re-roll on the Cannon also means that there is a 1/32 chance it will get hot, and a 1/64 chance it will kill your Servitor.

As a side note, since Plas Cannons don't roll to hit, their 'Gets Hot!' is not part of shooting (it's before), the second sage is really only good for rerolling the blast scatter.

Or are people playing that Sage can reroll that 'Get's Hot' roll even though Sage says 'Can reroll a To Hit roll'.

You have to take a Brother Captain if you're taking Dreads. I'd suggest Plasma Cannon and two multimeltas. Stick them in a Rhino or Chimera with 2 mystics. This will allow you to disrupt deepstrikers and give you extra anti-tank. The unit is very expensive however. Deepstriking Terminators will be very sorry as well. 2 S8 AP1 Shots and a S7 AP2 blast on them immediately when they land will kill off a large portion of the most deepstriking squads*. Give the Inquisitor Word fo the Emporer and you can prevent the squad form being assaulted. This is one of the things I was thinking about before I ended up deciding on taking some sisters to get extra anti-tank. 3 Dreads against IG sucked. My terminators deepstriking behind the tanks and assaulting them worked much better at destroying them then constantly shooting at them. On a side note Dreads are an amazing tarpit against Grey Knight Termies if they don't have a DCCW.

*Please note anyone deepstriking more than 5 thinks they are incredibly lucky or are using a teleport homer.
