I'm getting ready to get started with this table top game and am looking to have a full 1500 point army by Christmas when I have the time to play. I haven't bought anything yet, and would greatly appreciate some help in going through this list to determine what I'm gonna buy before I actually start forking out large sums of money XD.

For 1500 Points (I'm still new so if there's like a problem with the way I put something together feel free to tell me).

HQ:

Librarian

Elite:

5 Sternguard (Powerfist, Combi-Melta) ~ The Box set more or less XD
Dreadnought (MM, DCCW, Flamer) ~ This is the Assault on Black Reach Dread, I'm gonna convert him to include the Flamer instead of the bolter
Dreadnought (MM, DCCW, Flamer)

Troops:

1 Tactical Squad (x10 Marines, Flamer, MM)
1 Tactical Squad (x10 Marines, Flamer, LC)
1 Tactical Squad (x10 Marines, Flamer, LC)

Fast Attack

2 Landspeeders (Heavy Flamer, MM)

Transports

3 Rhinos ~ For the Tactical Squads
2 Drop Pods ~ One has a Locator Beacon for the Libby and will carry the Sternguard and Librarian, and the other is for 1 of the Dreads

Heavy Support

2 Predators (AC, Bolter Sponsons)

That's my general plan and I found some good deals of the items here and there. It doesn't really have to be the greatest most awesome list ever. I can settle for passable at the moment, but any and all suggestions would be appreciated if anyone has any XD.

Those are all competitive units, and they're all sort of 'core' selections - flexible, not outrageously huge/expensive units that can only be used as the main element of a list.

Only changes I can suggest are that the sternguard would be better off with all combi-meltas, losing the power fist to get the points needed. The tactical squads are better off with multimeltas or missile launchers, lascannons aren't really worth the upgrade points - which can then be spent on a combi-weapon or combat upgrade for the sergeant.

If you're new to the game, I advise you to keep your options open at first - play with the landspeeders and predators by blu-tacing or very lightly gluing the the weapons on, you may find that other configurations are better against your particular opponents.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sort of happy to see it wasn't a mile long list honestly XD.

I could do that. The only matter will be money. I found an awesome deal on the sternquard box set, but had trouble looking for getting pieces with combi-weapons. I might not get it now, but I have put it on my "to do" list.

Really? I though the LC's were a good trade of since they could shoot twice as far as the MM. But then so can the ML, and they're free. I might recheck what I'm getting and see if I can find some MM's online. I was getting the devastator squad since those were what it came with but if I can find 3 MM's for less than the devastator squad I'll probably take them instead and save some money.

I was actually intending to do just that. Elmer's glue finally found a use for me . A light layer will hold something in place, but a little tug and it comes right off, and the crust can be easily scrapped away.

Combi-meltas are apparently pretty easy to convert, look in the tutorials section on this site.

The heavy weapons in tac squads are actually a good example for your elmer's glue plan! MLs come in the box and the devestator box has a mix of the different weapons, so you might as well try out different options, see what works best. I find a full 48" range isn't always necessary, but then again I play, at least one side is using an aggressive army that moves in close.

You're right, that is easy . it's even easier since I have the rifle and all I need is the nozzle and the canister. I can find the pieces to do that laying around my house! Now I just need to find another arm for that sergeant that doesn't have a power fist at the end.

Thanks a lot for the help bounty
