I originally had commission of Chaos Daemonettes , however the person backed out .

Thus i want to try a fluid , feminine approach to painting the Dryads .
Previous month i have been painting nothing but black and green orks , thus im very happy for a change of scenary ( literally... )

The basing is bland , i really wanted them to be filled with falling leaves , however dont have any :<
so the most i can do is paint them to the colors of a park floor during autumn ( well atleast maple tree leaf are this color ;p )

Here is the link to Dakka Gallery ( there is a very large different after uploading to dakka , most obvious been the reds turning into a fuzz )

Under the couch

They're probably quite nice, but against the white background it's a little hard to tell...

So are they Dryads that count as Daemonettes? It's the pink that makes me ask, because it's not very autumn-like. Nice job, though.

The color scheme was meant for Daemonettes ( i usually try to visualize / plan for the color if its for commission )
so after much effort + it was cancelled , i felt i must apply the color onto SOMETHING ( certainly not orks lol )

I also tried to apply the scheme like : " anything magically related will turn to spring and green wherever they pass " ( scene from Princess Mononoke )
so basically tree spirit + magical chars will have green things sprouting ONLY around them .

Scene from 0:38 is what i wanted

The Night Walker ( if i ever figure out how to make one ) will be Ancient Treeman

I greatly enjoyed that film.

I like some of the colour scheme. The skill is most certainly there.

Colour choices however...
You have said autumn but the basing on these does not say red fallen leaves but instead reminds me of the red desert of central Australia.
You've used very strong and vibrant green for the plant stems, this is a spring reminiscent colour for me.
The pink on the heads is entirely unnatural and does not compliment (in fact against the base colour, it is clashing quite angrily for me).

Sorry if that's a bit harsh but your pm asked for honesty and i'm saying as I'm seeing it. Overall it's too strong and vibrant with odd colour choice/mixes and does not speak Autumn to me.

Sigh the base is indeed one major problem...
what color do you think fits for the head?
The branch can be fixed easiest atm .

Hmm........... need leaf for base :<

*Edit im going to try to paint a green area around the sprouting areas like the movie.
If it fails... i'll paint it all white lol

I am a serious fan of user Mousekiller's work.

His recent Undead army had a very subtle Autumn theme and all his armies are amazingly based.

As for the heads... hmm, I'd just suggest reverting it all to very natural colouring. Whilst we can certainly find pinks and blues and all sorts of colours in nature and the barks of trees, to convey the 'nature' feel in 28mm figures sculpted to look like tree spirits, it pays to use only very immediately recognisable natural colour palette.

Leave the 'unnatural' colours for the daemons and lizardmen and man-made materials on humans or elves.

I like them. The freehand looks good (is it freehand?).

I think once the leaf litter (if you go for that) is on the base it will look very good.

One you have everything done that you want to will you re-shoot against a grey background?

Of course, as an American, that means I must say that soccer sucks, and football (real football... you know, the one where you do everything with your hands) is 10,000 times as good. I mean, football players could probably beat up soccer players, even, because they actually know sports.

I don't like the pink. It's very 'un-tree-like', and I think the white is too bright overall. 'White' bark tends to be more of a light grey, so maybe darken it a bit.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Nicely painted Luna, but like the other posters, I'm not sure that pink works on dryads especially for the purposes of an autumn themed army.

The bases are pretty cool though.

Princess Monoke is probably my favourite Ghibli film. They all give me migraines (especially Spirited Away), but I was really absorbed by Monoke nonetheless.

I like the pink! It gives the models that very "japanese" feel from the movie. I like the idea in general and am a big fan of the movie. I think the pink is definitely in keeping with the feel of the film, can't wait to see the other models, particularly the wild pigs that are the size of elephants! Keep up the good work!

Okay, so it's just the heads that are pink, but seriously, awesome idea and implementation. Have you considered the Warhammer Basing Kit for the leaves? You might not be as much of a sucker for GW products as I am, but it comes with a whole sheet of brass leaves (at least 4 or 5 different shapes) strung together. You can cut them individually or, with a little heat from a hairdryer, shape them like strung branches.

I like it. It's different, but in a good way. I think it captures the Japanese feel of anime with the colours very well too.

Thank you ! no its not free hand ( its part of the sculpt :x ) but i guess it stands out compared to the GW color since its against white .
I can try black or gray back ground but they arnt standing up too well lol and kept falling over threatening to squish the minis .

Not too sure about GW leafs , ( they look rather lagre o_o?) not to mention i need to find a material that is cheap and i can apply to whole army ><

@The ones that found out the pink is related to cherry blossom , yes you are right .
I agree the pink really isnt fitting with the orange autumn scheme , but i find the normal GW dryad color scheme
makes them all looking like Old Hags . Thus i thought maybe it would work if i give them some vibrant colors to represent strong forest spirits .
( and the pink sort of doubles as hair rofl )

I have 12 more dryads not assembled i can do later , any more suggestions would be great!
no more hair at all? or just change the color from pink? which color?
what color do you recommend the sprouting branch from the ground to be?

The over all color scheme of the army is not all autumn btw , it'll be going from autumn orange to winter white to spring green from unit to unit .

Can;t wait to see a whoel army, the scheme and theme of the models is really well thought out and put together.

I love your palette. Looks pretty darn good However, I do agree that the white backdrop makes it rather hard to make out some details. All in all, pretty convincing stuff though

For a clearer picture, download GIMP (was free on this site but don't know if it still is) then adjust the levels and the curves (under the 'colour' tab).
Just play around until it looks clearer.
