Ok I decided that while taking breaks from painting a billion boyz, Id work on painting the lil GrotNob I made for laughs. I think it turned out rather well. My only complaint really, well two, its cloudy and crappy outside, so the lighting wasnt the greatest, and in the first picture, the bolters look black on the bottom. Dunno why because they are painted lol oh well. C&C as always ladies and gents!

I love it! I am not a huge fan of orks, but when someone converts and paints one realy well, they look excellent. Great paint job!

This is honestly the coolest thing i've seen in a while. I think I prefer this too your Boss you made...
It's really well painted! How did you do the rust, weathering powders?
The bolter trophy is a great idea.

Well thanks everyone! I guess this adds to my "Americana paint isnt garbage" debate lol
No the rust is just a method I use. Its rather simple.
Base black, heavy dry brush boltgun metal. Let the paint set only a minute or two, then take orange (I GUESS its blazing orange in citadel paint) and semi lightly drybrush it over the edges and flat serfaces, then immediately take your finger and just lightly rub the orange off. It rubs down a smidge and shows a LITTLE bit of the black through all the paint. And thats it. Nice little weather/rusting effect.

Brilliant - like all the best technique it's beautifully simple. My only criticism is that he looks like he's fall over or is pinned to the spot by his trophy pole, however I know it's not popular to expect realism in a sci-fi wargame setting, and he is pretty cool.

lol Yea Im not going to lie, it was a little challenging painting that because as you can see, its that tiny PLASTIC pole holding it all on his tiny frame. I was affraid of it snapping while painting, it bent ALOT. Think along the lines of a palm tree in a hurricane lol.
It just kind of happened tho. I made the grat and he looked cool, but the PK looked weird being so big and just sitting there. So I added the attack squig to take up some base, and add character as well...... but it was still kind of OFF. So naturally I thought, BACK POLE! and the standard nob pole with the weird skull thing, was still way to small. So I ripped the big skull off the battelwagon sprue. Then the giant horns from the BW. Ahh the joys of evolution

The rust on the skull poll (is that actually a "boss pole"? I don't play orks at all...) needs something. I can't put my finger on it but it looks... incomplete. Like an edge highlighting or something. I think maybe because of the lighting, the two surfaces contrast very highly and it looks weird.
I do like the idea of a "grot nob" leading da boyz, if that could work somehow

Yep its a bosspole. I think its just the camera I used. The Kodak one I normally use caught a slight case of death. So its still not back from being fixed lol. I dunno, cameras are just a pain in the buns when it comes to taking these minis.
Insaniack - yea I think your right. You gotta realize tho, hes a grot.....leading a mob of boyz.... he needs to LOOK like he means business
