My friend bought some hand me down figures recently, and his set came with the MEQ Damocles Command Rhino, a forge world figure
The rules for the rhino are in Inperial Armour Apocalypse, but does this mean we have to be playing apocalypse for him to use it?
Any help would be great

No. You're friend can field it as a regular Rhino with a cool look or you can agree to let him use the Damocles in a normal game as his second HQ choice. Its not an overpowered model by any stretch of the imagination so as long as your local playing group is fine with him using it, he can play it in normal games. Just be sure to check with your opponents and any tournament organizers if you plan on playing it outside your normal group.

Great, thanks, that's what I thought
I'm assuming using units such as titans is completely out of the question when not playing apocalypse though.
Is there a way to tell what units are apocalypse-specific?

Mostly just common sense. If it works like a normal unit (i.e. can only shoot one target, follows regular AV rules, fills a specific force org slot, etc.) you can generally use it in regular 40K games as long as you tell your opponent ahead of time and provide him a copy of the rules. Formations and super-heavy vehicles that use structure/mass points are good examples of Apocalypse only units.

Most big things (titans, thunderhawks, etc) are classed as "warmachines" rather than Heavy Support, Fast Attack, etc. As such they can't be used in a standard 40K force org.
