3x Valkyrie Boxes
100ish cadians (can equip however to use as command squads etc...)
12ish heavy weapon teams

Through trades I also have Whirlwind Turret for (manticore, hydra) and a basilisk turret
-possibly getting a chimera or two through trades.

I am hoping to get up to 1500pts. I heard that I should probably do 2x Vendettas and 1x Valkyrie with melta veterans in them. What do the IG players think I should do?

With that ammount of human flesh and heavy weapons... 3 valkyries is better. Take laser cannons to open transport vehicles and dreads, valkiries to kill marines and troops, and meltas for the heavy tanks.

Vendettas have their purpose, but I'd rather put my AT in the hands of Mantiores, Medusas, and vets with Meltas.

Of course, you can always just magnetize your valks, and change them out for vendettas when ever you want.

I'm planning on using magnets for the valks they are too expensive otherwise.

Yeah, but you're only going to want either the Vendetta or the Valk with Multiple rocket pods, so you don't have to magnetize too much.

So you think that the Heavy Bolters are always a good buy then?

I think I've heard someone say they stuck the heavy bolters on so that they could be swivelled up to fit inside the doors of the aircraft. Try doing a search in the tutorials section.

As for the valk/vendetta thing, I believe you want to keep the vendettas while you're using your current resources. It's pretty hard to get lascannons on the infantry efficiently (lascannon HWS=105 points, not twinlinked unless it passes an order, far more vulnerable than a vendetta) and even though people talk about meltas a lot, if you're in meltagun range, so is the other guy! Lascannons are great for killing transports.

I think you should put your meltas/plasmas on 2 vet squads, to go in 2 aircraft. Then take the remaining men and put them in 1-2 platoons. Use the HWTs to put autocannons in all the infantry squads before you think about forming HWSs. I think AC/GL is the best basic armament for IG infantry squads. One of your PCSs (or a SWS with demo charges) can ride in the third aircraft. That way you'll have three mobile transports/gunships, and a firebase using orders to lay down plenty of dakka.

Hope that plan helps, good luck with the army.
