Subject: DE miscast ring versus Teclis?

Hello all,
I was wondering what happens with that weird Miscast on Doubles ring of the DE's, and Teclis?
I know in the BRB, it says that a miscast takes precedence but it seems kind of foolish that my 475 point character casts Irresistably on Doubles of 2's, but those same doubles cause a miscast?
However I may find it foolish but it seems without errata thats exactly what happens?

More specifically, even in the High Elf book (since army book trumps BRB) it specifies that if Teclis rolls any doubles when casting a spell it is cast with Irresistible Force unless on a miscast result. The Ring of Hotek says all doubles (within its area of effect) are miscast results.
Of course, Teclis could choose to take the Lore of Metal (though, an odd choice against DE) and use Law of Gold to turn the ring into mush if he guesses the right carrier of it.

Miscasts override Irresistable Force. ALways.
Yes, the ring is fairly broken.

I'm not entirely sure about that. Takes up a Talisman slot, usually pretty easy to kill the guy wearing it, only useful against high end magic and if you target something away from the ring it doesn't do anything. Would it be a little more friendly if it simply caused magic to fizzle rather than cause a miscast? Yes.

Kinda Off Topic, but I just noticed your post count citadel97501-666
Back on topic, I agree with Nosferatu-Miscast always overrides Irrestisble force unless explicitly stated otherwise.

For example, at the 'Ard Boyz Semifinals, round 2 this year - irresistible force on double 5's or double 6's, miscast on double 2's or double 1's. In the case of both, you'd cast the spell with irresistible force, then apply the miscast.

its actually in the dark elf FAQ, the book of hoeth and teclis will miscast on doubles if being affected by the ring of hotek, and the same goes for pandaemonium.

Turn one he flies to near your mages. Turn 2 onwards you struggle to cast as you have to get your mages away froma flying terror causer.

OR, he could just use High Magic and use Vauls Unmaking, which will ALWYAS render the item useless for the remainder of the game instead of having a 50/50 probability of rendering t useless for one turn or rest of game.

On a unit with MR1/2? Good luck! Esepcially if you throw enough dice at it you then have a damn good chance of miscast....

And, if you miscast with Teclis, so what? He ignores the first one every turn. I was simply replying to someone who said he could take the Lore of Metal and use Law of Gold, but then he said that Lore of Metal would be a strange choice to use against Dark Elves, so i suggested a different, less strange choice, I by no means suggested that it was a good choice to try it. My personal favorite thing to do against DE is to equip a Lord on a Star Dragon with the Null Stone, and then Fly him next to what ever character is giving you the most grief. Unkillable Lord, no problem, fly my guy next him, or even charge him, and get another charge with Dragon Princes or some Elite Infantry, and that Lord will die pretty quick because everything he has that made him unkillable is now nullified. Ring of Hotek, also no problem. get this guy within 6", and that wizard can't even cast spells. Ha Ha.

Indeed
Which is why the ring dragon lord is so hard: you cant gateway him, and if your dragon flies up he will likely either get the charge on you, or simply fly, charge another unit and overrun out of your way.
HE suck against DE, big time.

Never lost to DE with my HE. Yes they always have hatred, but I always strike first, and have a banner to negate their hatred. i can kill the unkillable lord, and shut down their magic if i wan to. I can counter everything they can throw at me.

Why bother, Vauls Unmaking does the same job better.

As a Dark Elf player I'm not terribly familiar with the High Magic lore.
Good to know that exists before it gets used on me, though.

This is an illegal combination as they are both talismans.

I'd think the bound ring that has vaul's unmaking should be in every HE army just in case you run into a DE player. Use the other mages to cast and try to pull dispel dice, then use the bound vauls to crack the ring of hotek.
Regardless, I don't think i'd want to play the my HE lord/dragon vs DE lord/dragon, if your strategy of winning revolves around using your HE dragon to try and counter charge a DE dragon, you might want to re-think it. ASF, not the best when fighting Hatred if you don't kill what you charge...
