Ok here's the deal I've been playing daemons for a while (ever since they were released) and I absoulutely love the idea of making the possesed avatar from the fluff story The Fall Of Kher-Ys (p26) and i was wondering how i might go about making the avatar more Slaaneshi. I know i'm going to paint him purple boardering blue. And my friend said to out cracks in the armour, use a bit of freehand on the lioncloth at the front etc. all those easy things. And then one of the local GW workers said "why don't I convert the Helm or the head into a slaanesh symbol?" so i was wondering what you guys thought of that.

Not sure if Slaneesh would even work with Eldar. Not sure of the Helmet idea, but I guess you could give it a whip instead of the sword.

Uhm..... you do know your basic Eldar fluff dont you? They CREATED Slaanesh.
Anywho, as far as the head goes..... Im not sure how you would really go about doing that. It honestly might look a bit odd having a head as a Slaanesh symbol. The rest of the idea sounds good. I think the Avatar is a cool ass mini

Um...you do know that the Eldar HATE Slaanesh, right? Slaanesh single-handedly murdered virtually all the Eldar.

And Khaine and Slaanesh fought. Khaine lost of course, creating the Avatar.

Which makes me wonder how an Avatar would turn to Slaanesh, as it is essentially a molten body with a sword.

But hey, I guess it's your background even if it doesn't really make sense.

Only it isn't his background. It's GW's. It's in the daemon book.

ok first of all the Avatar did not turn slaaneshi. It was possesed by a keeper of secrets on the craftworld of Kher-Ys look it up the next time your in a GW shop.
Another thing, Kaine did not lose, before he was defeated he tore himself into a million mortal pieces thus creating the avatars.
And i didnt mean having a head as a slaanesh symbol I meant having the Slaanesh symbol sticking out of his helm like he has the Kaine Symbol (my bad I should have pointed that out.)
I like the idea of a whip and it was also bought up to change the bloodied hand to a slaaneshi claw.

do a freehand form of a feminin looking eldar- i.e. opposite to khaine - slaanesh-daemonette, and then leave most of the armor the eldar rune armor with maybe the tips bent a bit.. and the head side flap thingys make em kinda contoryed n stretched, maybe smooth them out n put subtle energy glowing cracks in them.. contained unstable energy.. maybe even instead of molten iron it can be... some slaaneshy liquid.. like purple radioactive sex jelly or something

the whip replacement idea is good too

maybe an extra arm.. a claw perhaps?

There is more to Slaanesh than S&M bondage and sex toys. Slaanesh is a god of decadence of the senses, but also a patron of artisans, musicians, and dancers. She grants beauty and fame, awe and glory from the lessers around you.

The Avatar model looks adorned, but one could hardly say it is beautiful. It looks savage and full of fury. It looks like it might unleash terrible destruction, but one doesn't get the sense that the Avatar enjoys destruction. That's just its domain.

But if an Avatar began to speak advice to its craftworld even before it was awakened. If it demanded kingly rainment from the Eldar and promised a return to the days of old, when the Eldar could be lords of all the stars. If it looked ever more beautiful and cold, but its face a lie hiding its true nature. And above all, if it killed for it's own enjoyment rather than for the good of the Eldar, that I would say would be a very convincing Slaanesh avatar.

Mixing white with rotting flesh and water effects would give a pretty decent semi opaque, high gloss sex jelly effect.

I've been experimenting for my tyranid terrain and it looks pretty good!

Experimenting eh?! Dear me. Stop now. Big up Bristol massive too, just as an aside.

I really like the idea of subtly warping all the runes on the fig, just making them a bit 'wrong'.

Nicely done
And to defend myself on the Slaanesh comment, Im sorry but there isnt a whole lot that is IMMUNE to chaos taint. Orks, necrons.....and thats about it. So Im pretty sure an Avatar could be tainted (tho now I know its been possessed)

Orks aren't immune, there are some stormboy (sp?) kults that are... well, at least chaos influenced. I think it's more that orks are very resistant and capable of orkifying most things. Slaanesh finds it hard to get a foot in, orks have ideas of 'better' but don't really strive for perfection. Tzeentch is too subtle and orks tend to smack weird stuff, so mutations aren't the way to go. Orks also have so many redundancies and inate toughness that they shrug off most diseases. Khorne is the only one with a reasonable chance, and while they agree on many things, that means that the energy of orks spilling lots of blood and taking lots of heads already goes to Gork and Mork so doesn't strengthen Khorne.

I think it's more that nearly everything else is a better target for chaos to work on/with.

To be honest, I don't think any of the GW Slaanesh models are "beautiful" per se. Sersi's conversions are much closer to my vision of what Slaanesh should/could be. Something sexually attractive but wrong at the same time. (nohomo) the Sigvald model makes sense, its "beautiful" but deadly.(/nohomo) But the Keeper of Secrets? Yuck. Even the Forge World version is "perverted" but definitely not beautiful.

Maybe giving it some piercings and cracked bits with tentacles creeping out, perhaps a claw hand in place of the sword, or even the sword fused into the arm! lot of good places to go with this and I had given it some thought myself. can't wait to see what you do.
