I am switching from VC to TK, as the VC don't have any Long-range units, and I like having the option.
So, what would you do with the TK battalion? Is it good?

Depends on what kind of army you want. MSU, lots of ranged.
I would split the skellies in 2-3 regiments. Either 20 hth (spears or hand weapons) and 12 archers. Or 3 regiments of archers.
The cavalry works good as heavy or light.
I must confess, I dont have much experience with TK, but i know the chariots and magic can be destructive for the enemy.

Regular skellies aren't very popular in TK, though they're not terrible.
Archers are better, and you can charge them in to act as a tarpit/help with outnumbering if needed. A single unit of 20 TK archers can be a nice choice, particularly since a single Incantation of Urgency then gets you 20 extra shots, instead of just 10-12 from a smaller unit. Such a unit can also reform into a fully ranked unit if you really need extra CR late in the game. One of the top TK players in the country, Matt Lewandowski, uses a unit like this. With the banner that allows him to raise a d6 back as a bound spell.

I am currently juggling the same issue as we speak, the cc focused VC or an archer/magic based range army.
Apperently there is a special char that amplifies the abilities of the ranged skellis if i heard correctly

I have a regiment of 20 archers and cc equiped skellies in my force. I will start posting pictures if Tomb kings win my poll. Check it out in general disscusion.

Correct, Khalida. She allows you to have poisoned shooting attacks (which with needing 5's to hit already, means that 1/2 your hits are auto-wounds). Problems are her points cost, what she is capable of, and I'm pretty sure that she's a Lord / Hero character (or takes up two slots, for those only familiar with this generation that has one-slot characters).

Then i would recommend, build archer skeletons. Combine this with catapults and magic, you can thin down the enemy before he reachers your troops.
Then elites, like chariots, can take care of the rest.
Just my 2 cents

Okay, I was thinking on starting with the Battalion and a set of Skeleton Warriors to make some cc units. Its not like I think they will do much, though I want at least one as a screen unit.
