I was on the GW website the other day and i noticed in the Bloodbowl and Mordhiem section there was Araby and Amazon factions

One thing i would like to know, is that why are there no Araby and Amazon factions in Warhammer Fantasy
(Cuz I'm interested in the Araby backround, or the little that I know).

And if there was Araby and Amazon at one point, what happened to them

On the same GW website, they have a completely converted army that represents Araby (It counts as a Tomb Kings army though)

Amazons wouldn't be much of an army, besides, Lizardmen fill that niche (What with the whole jungle-theme)

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

Someone at my "local" FLGS converted up an Araby army with various bits and bobbles and played them as a Darkrider-heavy DE army.

Why not Dogs of War? The standard list can be used very well for the minor human realms like Araby and the Amazons, just pick your regiments accordingly and give them cool names. Getting Arabian troops is not so easy though, you'll have to convert them or use non-gw models. GW did have an Arabian Cavalry regiment in previous editions, with models. I think the Amazons did get rules in 6th edition too, for the Lustria Online Campaign.

The basic reason as more or less suggested is that the regional archetypes are already covered by Lizardmen and Tomb Kings. GW can only release so many army books and related miniature ranges and in fantasy they probably do too much as it is.

GW has a few nations out there in the fluff that rarely appear in games. Cathay and Nippon are China and Japan but haven't had miniatures or rules since the late 80s.

Araby got a Warmaster army (15mm) a few years back and a Dogs of War unit in the late 90s but that was about it.

GW also has a bad habit of only making European-based human armies. Non-Europeans end up being some kind of monster.

That is why I think there should be a Dogs of War Army Book, it could be used perfectly to represent minor human nations. Including Regiments of Renown would be awesome too, or at least rules for making your own.

But see, releasing a Dogs of War book would make people happy. Never going to happen.

I really enjoyed the amazons from the lustria online campain. Still my favorite models. It seems reasonable to use empire rules, but this only seems feasible on a lower scale. The amazons dont have heavy Calvary, cannons, steam tanks and handguns so they cant make it far.

I am a little apprehensive about the cover all dogs of war list as it seems like it could get really unmanageable.

I do think they need to bring back some variety. Some us us like non-European armys (god forbid). Id really like a set of armys for my jungle board. Mercenarys, amazons, savage orks, and lizardmen. It really would be epically awesome.

How do you mean?

Too many possibilities?
too many different models to be released for this list?
The THREAT that hobbyists are going to use (gasp) Non-GW models?

GW is big on multi-part plastics nowadays, I think they could get around such issues easily with a good couple of sprues

If they can release so many SM codice ,
they sure can have the creativity to bring back Dogs of War

The reason why im worried about a cover-all dogs of war list is that it might fill holes for other armys too well.

At the same time if it becomes an independent list, i still believe it needs a central idea, like GW's italy. From there they could include sub lists, like an amazon priestess characters that provides a benift for archers that makes them preferred.

But the idea of a troop that can be equipped with every weapon, followed by a skirmisher that can be equipped with every weapon and every throwing weapon... so on so forth sounds so pointless to me. Id rather a person construct a fan dex at that point. The army wouldnt be specialized at all.

The current dog list is a little like that, except they have unrestricted access to the RoR, which provides a great flavor.

And lets be honest, if we are on this website, we can covert and use models from company's as wish. We are beyond that i hope.

My problem with DOW is that it enables each army to counter their own individual weaknesses. Dwarf army? No cavalry? How about making use of these mercenary knights? Yes, you have to use up a rare slot, but that's not a massive disadvantage.

It's true that DOW could have been used to cover weaknesses in an army, I believe it happened, and I guess it can be a motivation not to continue support for the race. However, I feel that it depends on the attitude of the gamer involved. Win At All Costs players would relish the possibility of a cavalry unit for dwarfs, but the utility of cavalry in a dwarf army is limited, as the rest of the force is too slow to lend support.

I like the idea of a main list and sub-lists. It should not offer too much freedom, that's easily abused by the less-mature gamer. The last list was restricted in options on the equipment parts. I works quite well.

True, amazons might be covered with Wood Elves, and Araby with the empire/tomb kings... I find these proxies actually a bit lame as they do not offer suitable possibilities to the army. Especially the araby as tomb kings option is a stretch, Skelletons have worse combat stats than humans and cause fear. Now, are arabs so terrifying? Of course you can use Empire, but there is no Light Cavalry core choice, nor any BOW armed cavalry to take. There are few accurate proxies for minor human nations.

The current list for DOW is slowly sliding into the abyss of the Squats and Zoats... But is excellent for the minor human nations. It's a shame that GW dropped it from their supported range. True, it could be a thing for the Older more veteran gamers only, so make it worth anyone's while by including a bit more than just stats and lists.

Luckily the 6th edition rules can still be applied to 7th for DoW players, like me, and in friendly games they can be competitive when you bring units like Rhinox Riders. I like using certain RoR in their respective armies that fits fluff. I have used Oglah Kahn’s Wolfboyz and Ruglud’s Armored Orcs in my greenskin army; as well as Tichi Huichi’s Raiders in a LM army. They are good balanced units and they fit. Currently I am working on building a 1K dwarf list and I have 20 of Long Drong’s Slayers integrated in the list. I also plan on including Malakai Makaison’s Goblin Hewer.

To the OP, there is a WD article, I think issue 306, that features rules for Amazons. It includes vanilla rules written by Andy Hoare, and rules for a character being the Serpent Priestess, and a RoR being Anacondas Amazons (I think that is the name). I have not used Anaconda in a game, but I have used the Serpent Priestess. When coupled with the Truthsayer, it gives a DoW list a very powerful magic heavy list.

[edit] The issues are consecutive issues, 307 and 308.

If you have an open-minded gaming group there is a nice site for anyone who wants Araby, Mercenaries, Amazons etc, The Old Sage.

The reason I always heard was that there were already plenty of human armies so that they did not want to have "another human army" in the form of Araby, Cathay, Nippon, Ind, etc.

That's a good point, but I would've thought that Araby was more distinct from Empire than Bretonnians are. Flying carpet hero mounts? Camel riders? War elephants? Much more exciting than lance formations IMO.
