Columbus, Oh

it would help to know what you already have..

Personally, I would start by grabbing War Walkers for eldar and a Land Raider for the DH Inquisitor to roll around in..

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

Don't buy something for EACH army. Buy $300 worth for ONE army. It'll bring you that much closer to having a complete army.

Also, the higher discount you can find, the more models you'll get for your money.

www.chaosorc.com is a good place to start. Some of his models are 25% and more off.

I dare you to spend it on a Realm of Battle Board. You'd have $10 left over.

I heard no eldar players are fielding guardians. So DAs for troops.

What are the current builds of choice for eldar?

if you're going eldar 3 Wave Serpents, pack fo fire dragons, 20 dire avengers are certs to buy along with the codex.

After you have read it look ove rthe units, read tatics and articles and decid what theme you want.

Then you need to decide if want banshees, scorpions etc and then are you going to go for walkers and wraithlords or what.

Once you nkow what your aiming for buy it in chunks so you can see what works and what you need next maybe?

Or pick you army and cost it up so your set. get paints and all you need etc and buy it from a discount retailer like some mentioned and get it all at once and get painting.

I would go with Whichever you like. DH Allied with Guard + WH can be absolutely nasty! While Eldar can come up with some disgusting builds too.

What kinda list are you aiming for?

Here are some things I think will help you decide units:

1. What kinda of army do I want to build?

2. Which army (DH or Eldar) would best suite that kinda army? (ex. Bike Army --> Eldar : Foot Army --> DH)

3. Do I like this army? Is it solid? Can I build out of this?

If you are going toplay DH buy a Cadian battleforce and then add an inquisitor, assassin of you choice and some Gray Knights. With that you have a decent starting points to build upon.

With Daemonhunters, your army will be EXPENSIVE. But, you don't need that many models becuase they are also expensive points-wise.

But $300 should be able to get you at least 1000 points or so of Daemonhunters.

Go Bartertown, Swap Shop, or Ebay! Preferably one of the first two imho. There are some great armies up for sale on bartertown for about that price. I just paid $275 shipped for 3000 points of lizardmen through bartertown (although I had to sell my other army to afford it!) which I am very happy with, and would have cost a LOT more at retail (or even near retail) price.

That way you can stretch your budget a bit more

If you want to spend money on more than one army I suggest Daemon hunters or witch hunters and IG or any Flavor of space marine.

That way you can run one large army or two smaller ones.

Sorry MGS, but I feel as though someone needs to call you out on that statement. Not buying into an army just for fear it will not be around years down the line is limiting at best and a self-fulfilling prophecy at worst. DH will be squatted if everyone stops buying it, but the more people continue buying into it, the greater the chance we'll see new support for them. Besides, I think in the most cynical (read: realistic) view, everything except Space Marines has a chance to be squatted. Having all this been said, OP, I think you should borrow both codexes and go with whichever one better suits the way you want to play. DH are cool because you can get the support of the IG or Witch Hunters, which allows for some very interesting combinations of forces. I've also seen some amazing things done with how maneuverable the Eldar are. Most of the games I've seen won by them have been due to using their speed in the last couple rounds to sneak onto objectives and contest others. If you want an army that is less about holding objectives and more about deftly snagging them out from the other player last minute, go with them. If you want something more like Space Marines but with more options and flexibility, go with Daemonhunters.

Also, Eldar have quite a bit of pewter stuff still, and just as expensive as Daemonhunters can be. Anyone wanting to argue with me on that should go price some Wraithguard.

*EDIT* Also, DH slaughter Eldar any day. Ignore invul saves FTW!

Get nothing but Storm Guardians and start the best Eldar army ever. You can't go wrong with expensive, fragile metal/plastic hybrid models with ineffective rules.

Hey this is a funny topic. A friend of mine was asking me earlier today what he could do with 300 bucks in regard to getting into warhammer 40k.

He doesn't need a rulebook, and is thinking about orks, or black templars. I know with orks he at least wants koptas and a trukk, and with templars he wants a land raider. He know almost nothing about the game. He also mentioned Necrons sounding cool. Can a 1000 point army be made for any of those with just 300 dollars?

"I drive a big car, cuz I'm a big star. I'll make a big rock-and-roll hit." "I am a big car, and I'm a strip bar. Some call it fake, I call it good-as-it-gets."

I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.

Yeah, 1000 points is definitely do-able. Hell, if I remember correctly, the Necron battleforce is like 800 points by itself.

If he's going for either Orks or BT, definitely start him with Assault on Black Reach. If he's playing Orks, he'll have Koptas. If he's playing Marines, he'll have terminators. Both are expensive units that he can hold off on buying.

After AoBR, he'll have $225 to flesh out his army to 1000 points. Definitely do-able.
