Well, I've talked about it, and here it is. The AT-43 Mission Generator:

http://supergigantic.org/AT43/AT43_Mission_Generator_Alpha.pdf

I don't want to repeat the content of the Designer's Notes, but put briefly this is based on previous mission systems and is actually three separate pieces:

1) 28mm terrain rules
2) Mission setup rules
3) Random mission table

It was tested as much as we could, which admittedly wasn't as much as I'd like so note this is an Alpha release, and I've set up a gmail account to send feedback, but only feedback based upon use. I'm not willing to engage in theoretical discussion. If you use it and have problems, email the battle report to the email address it gives you and it will get revised appropriately if enough people have the same issues.

I hope people find it useful, and that they enjoy it, and that we can make it better as people use it.

Wow. Plagiarize much?

You couldn’t even come up with your own tables and charts?

Oh goody. Another AT-43 argument thread. I'll PM Duncan Idaho and Lunahound to make sure that they know about it </sarcasm>

rwwin, if you're going to make accusations like that, please elaborate and post a link to somewhere that doesn't require people to install software or jump through a bunch of hoops. Thank you.

And for Pete's sake, please keep it civil, everyone! (This is to future posters in the thread).

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

Sorry, mediafire isn't the best file host on the net, but you don't have to download any software, the download button just opens the PDF.

Long story short, last May, Cairnius participated in a thread on the AT-43 site asking for rules for pick up games. I put together the file I linked to show what we'd been doing at our LGS. Cairnius typed many words panning the document, but apparently liked it well enough to use much of it in his own setup rules.

Rwwin is absolutely correct! If he had actually bothered to read the Designer's Notes he would have seen that I state quite plainly that I drew from many different sources to create my Mission Generator. I took what was best from them and left the rest behind.

This is also precisely what I said I was going to do in the thread Rwwin is referencing, so this comes as no surprise to him.

In Rwwin's case, I took the recommended table size chart and added to it, though honestly this was pretty common sense and was repeated across several different systems I looked at so I don't think any one person gets credit for it. Rwwin expressed the common wisdom the best with his chart, so if it ain't broke why fix it?

I took the access zone charts because they were made well, so why re-do them? They were missing the 4' x 6' table information, so I had to add that. Honestly, I would have preferred to make entirely new charts but I'm not a graphic designer, and it wasn't worth the time.

The mission "Kill Em All!" is taken straight from the AT-43 rulebook. Rwwin took that mission and tried to make three entirely-separate missions from it. I condensed them into one mission with a variable difficulty modifier if players wanted to use it. This is, again, precisely what I said I was going to do.

"Capture That Point" is also taken straight from the AT-43 rulebook. In essence, Rwwin took Standard Missions 1 and 2 and incorporated them into his mission set-up document...but apparently that wasn't plagarism.

That's all I got from Rwwin's document. It lacked terrain rules, guidelines for placement of tactical positions or objectives, had absolutely no content in reference to the Secondary Objectives which are so crucial to AT-43 gameplay, nothing about Neutral Access Zones which again are a staple of AT-43, and went so far as recommending amounts of terrain to be used which I avoided save for Size 6 pieces which can really screw up long-range shooting.

I don't remember the conversation Rwwin is referencing, and it was on the Sentinel-only section of their forums so I can't go back to look at it, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that if I "panned" his document it had to do with all of the above, and it's all reasonable criticism.

3' by 3' seemed reasonable when you looked at published Scenarios.

In the rulebook, 4' by 2' is used three times, and 2' by about 2.5 ' is used once. These are for 2000 AP armies.

In Operation Damocles you have lots of 4' by 2.75' playing spaces, many of which have much less than 25% cover on the board. There's a 2' by 2.75' board, a 4' by 2', a 3' by 2'...AP sizes are not given or recommended but 2000 AP was the norm at that stage in the game's development so it's reasonable to judge based on that.

If you want to test this at one of your AT-43 gaming days, I'd appreciate it beyond words.

I want this document to be solid so that people have faith enough to use it. I really think it would help the community if someone in Texas takes a trip out to NH and shows up at your store and both he and you are using the same document for missions to allow you to throw together a pick-up mission quickly, efficiently, and come up with a balanced table and mission 9 times out of 10 with ANY AT-43 army at any points size.

That's ambitious, but with enough testing it's possible.
