Where would be the best place to look for background/fluff information on the World Eaters chapter immediately prior to and during the Horus Heresy?

I'm working on a themed army project surrounding this chapter in the time period immediately prior to and during the Heresy at a time before virtually all of the members of the chapter became Red and Brass wearing Berserkers.

Thanks.

IIRC , the world eaters got :

- a short story in the Tales of heresy book, covering how Angron "accepted" his command
- Index astartes article
- - lexicanum article

Wow, that's surprisingly little, haha.

I guess that would give me a good bit of lee-way in my modeling, etc., as long as I kept the color schemes correct?

Pick up the Horus Heresy: Collected Visions book if you can find it. It's packed full of images of the various legions, primarchs, and special characters during the time period of the Heresy. Kharn looks mostly the same, but his armor is a blue-steel shade instead of blood red.

For fluff, I'm sure they get a decent amount of face time in the Horus Heresy series of novels.

Absolutely. This is a great book for design concepts and also a good read. I found a cheap second hand copy online but you could probably get it for under £20 in a book store. I like the Worldeater jump troops- White and blue with massive turbines strapped to their backs.

I really appreciate the help guys.

I'm (slowly) working on an army of World Eaters reflecting the period of time where they have already turned traitor, but have not completely morphed over to the appearance of World Eaters as we know them in "current" times. I have some cool ideas for converting some models that are in mid-change in their white/blue armor and the red/brass armor. I figure, it would look cooler if they were mutating/morphing the armor rather than just taking off one suit and putting on another.

I have lots of other ideas, but I want to make sure that what I do doesn't radically violate the fluff that already exists. Since this army will be primarily fluff and modeling/conversion based, I don't wanna tick off the people that actually know the fluff.

Excellent! That's a great link and it helps immensely.

With the idea I have for the modeling, I think I might have to change my background fluff for my army slightly to make them World Eaters immediately after their defeat on Terra during the Heresy and after they have relocated to the Eye.

I fear that my modeling project is going to prove really costly, but this is the first idea I've had that actually excites me about building a new GW army in almost 5 years....

If you want to give that feeling, paint them with the pre-Heresy scheme but covered in blood (if you can make the effects to make it appear as both dry blood and fresh blood it'll be absolutely win) with some sections of the original colours showing.

You could also make them as they were before Angron took over them, when they were called the war hounds.

Just so everyone knows, my idea is to show the chapter in mid-transformation from the loyalist marines to the chaos Legion. I want to display the change of appearance from the white and blue to the red and brass. I want to have budding Daemon princes showing the first vestiges of what will become epic mutations. I even plan on throwing a nod at summoned Daemons like Chaos Hounds and Bloodletters. Hehe...I was even planning on converting a Bloodletter into a slightly larger version to show one that was slowly climbing its way up to becoming a Bloodthirster, complete with vestigial wings.

You'll be doing well to subtly represent a blue/white transformation to red/brass scheme. I do like your ideas though and any WE love is fine by me. Good luck and keep us updated!

Fresh blood would be scab red, then blood red with gloss varnish over that.
