I understand that under normal circumstances a multi wound model will die from a weapon with a strength double its toughness. My question is, does this apply to single wound models? Are single wound models ever effected by instant death, or do they get their save? If its in the rule book please could you point it out because I can not find it!

You get your save either way, unless the attack ignores saves. Instant death applies to unsaved wounds.

Always 1 on the crazed roll.

Instant Death does not stop a model from taking their save as normal. It applies if the model suffers an unsaved wound from a strong enough weapon.

Check the first paragraph of the Instant Death rules section (page 26) for the 'unsaved' bit...

Whether or not you get your save (this is including both multi-wound and single-wound models) depends on the AP of the weapon, or any special save negating properties. Instant Death does not automatically negate a save. If you fail your save against an instant death wound, then a model (generally) loses all its wounds instead of just 1.

On single-wound models the only thing they would really notice being different from a normal unsaved wound, vs an instant death unsaved wound, is that they can't take FNP rolls against it if they have that ability. Of course there may be other abilities that relate to instant death in such a way also.

Oh wow, didnt even notice that part. So just to clear things up a model gets wounded by a wep that is double its toughness. It takes its save and fails. The single wound model would die normally, while the multi wound model would lose all its wounds and die because of instant death?

Both die of instant death, but it wouldn't make much difference to the single-wound model.

Instant death does deny a single-wound model its Feel No Pain save, though.
