Saw this thing on ThinkGeek:
Only $7 and could be used for some cool terrain for gaming.

I always look at weird stuff for gaming ideas. Things like that seem like a waste, but youd be surprised how sprucing up the battle field with random things can make the game funner

Good reminder about aquarium stores. Hrm. There's one down the street from my apartment too.
Some great Egyptian things from that first site.

Do you bring a model with you to the pet store and put it up against the scenery?

This makes me think how gamers are similar to stoners.
Instead of this (insert item) would make an excellent bong, gamers think about what could could be used as terrain or for modding... kk.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do |

If you go to a craft store after christmas, you can get scale pine trees for very cheap. It's a good way to build forests. You can get houses and stuff as well in the Santa's Village section.

Toys are amazing! I use them all the time in scenery.
I just bought one of these for £20 the other day.
It's going to be a while til I get round to doing it but it should be cool when it's done.
It stands 3ft6"ish so that bloke stood next to it must be pretty short!
It's pretty big on the table but actually feels in scale and with some of my industrial terrain
coming half way up it and after some work it should look ok.
I will definately be leaving the electrics in!!!
Linkywoo to my industrial terrain! http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/250932.page
Matchbox style garages are also useful.
My Tyranid/alien terrain consists of Fred Swizzle stick cocktail stirrers and MegaBloks Plasma Hatcher Drop Pod Thingies!

Also an Eldar Planetstrike setup for under £20 using household items

Yeah, all sorts of junk is useful, just open your mind all the time, think laterally and always carry a model with you for scale and get ready to use that gluegun!!!

I've gotten a bunch of terrain from Petsmart. Some of my favorite are;

There are three sizes of roots, and two sizes of the bonsai, but I could only find these two on the site. The trick to getting stuff at Petsmart is patience, as at some point, it will go on sale. Another great idea is just to check every few weeks to see what's on clearance. I've gotten rock formations that were originally priced at something like $40 for $10 on clearance, because apparently no one wanted to pay $40 for em.
