Here's my new waveserpent. You can check here if you want to see the full WIP.
This is the most recent pic:
I'll be adding two more highlights to the vines, a thin fortress grey along the whole thing, then the tips and edges will be done with pure white.
Here's a quick step by step on the vines so far.

Very detailed paint job, I like it, can you post up some more pics from other models you are doing in this paint scheme? A Wraithlord/guard? might be an interesting one to see in this scheme

Well this is only the second time I've really dove into a project like this, and I'm really liking it. So I'll probably pump out more stuff of this quality in the future. Here are some older things that I've done with similar effects.
Wraithlords: This was my very first attempt at vines. They are thick and clunky, but they look OK.
Jetbikes: Another attempt at vines. This one came out much better, though I'm not entirely pleased with the bikers themselves. They were old and had been stripped, so I couldn't get the riders off. Made the painting a bit dificult, and sometimes messy. I should probably go back and touch them up some anyway.
Falcon/Fire Prims: Finaly, my ( IMO) most successfull attempt at vines and high quality! Also the precursur to this Waveserpent.

Those are extremely good, the only thing I think I can find to possibly even say could be done better is the Wraithlords head would be better being pure white with your artistic details rather than a cloudy white with artistic detail. But thats only a personal preference and doesn't detract from the quality of the artwork and paint and decals withare truely impressive
keep em coming and keep us updated Automatically Appended Next Post: I'm also very fond of the detail thats gone into the pilot.
*sniff* puts my land speeder crew paintjob to shame

Everyone complains about the wraithlord's head!!! lol.... Its because its dry brushed.
As to the Pilot. I didn't really spend all that much time on him... in fact I think he's kina crappy looking lol... I could probably do better ><
P.S. there's no decals on any of these :-P

Nicely done. Very well executed with precision and consistency. The only thing for me, as a personal choice would have been to add more "arc" to the thorns, as they look a little like triangles, but they work just fine.
Great job!

It looks great so far. the only thing I would add is a line of grey-green in the middle of the vines on the wave serpent, to tie the vines into the background color.

I've had a lot of tips comming in on how to make the vines better. I'll probably be using Shadow and Space Wolves grey next time. I might test what you're suggesting on a spare model, but I'm not sure I want the vines to blend in. The whole idea is that they stand out againsed the green background. Beautiful. I really like this colour scheme, and you've carried it off with aplomb. Also, your gems are really nice - do you varnish them to make them shiny, or is that all paint effects?

Really excellent. I especially like the way one gem on each side is instead metallic like the engines, it ties the model together well. And you've done better on the other gems that I have the patience to do.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
The gems are a series of 6 or 7 layers between Scab Red and Blazing Orange. They are gloss vanished after I put on a matte spray. So the shine is natural and not painted.
Cheers!

7 layers! That, and the thorn pattern, is dedication.
And as weird as it sounds, I admire the bottom of your Waveserpent very much. I'm
horrible at painting a consistent color across large flat surfaces.

HEHE... yea, its a lot of layers to do for those gems, but it's necesary if you want that nice clean transition between dark and light.
The undercarrage was done with a series of drybrushes. Started with a white primmer, and washed the whole thing with solid Devlin Mud. Then I did 5 drybrushes working my way from solid Bleached Bone up to Skull White. In the end I did two layers of solid skull white just to make it nice and white. Doesn't really take all that long, but it makes a really nice clean white! (doesn't work as well on smaller more detailed areas)
