I purchased the Army Painter dip and matte kit at the local shop. I dipped my Orcs and while they turned a little too dark for my liking on the face and arms over all they look great. Two days later my buddy dips his SM army. Looks good and the effects of the dip helped shade them nicely. Here is the bad news. Just like the GW matte finish the Army Painter Matte will frost the models if not used within days of purchase! We thought he was screwed. Not so thanks to Dakka Dakka! A quick search and I find out that a cheap can of Testors matte will fix the problem. After two thin coats of the Testors and a bit of touch up my buddy will be able to field his army this weekend. Thanks Dakka Dakka.

Just buy regular acrylic wood varnish and add a few drops of black paint to it. Cheaper. Its how my dad does his ACW stuff and it looks fine.

What do you mean by "two thin coats of the Testors"? I have 4 cans of this stuff (if we're talking about the DulCote matte spray?) and I've been stalling on using it. How do you get an even, thin coat with a clear spray?
Thanks for any tips

Shake it up good... keep the can approx 8 inches from your model... spray 'past' your mini and start spraying before it in your sweep (basically just never start or stop spraying directly on the mini). Be patient also. Spray the front and the back, then let it rest for 15 minutes at least if you intend to hit it again.
I was experimenting with Createx Matte Varnish through an airbrush, which was a complete failure, and ended up saving my mini with Testors Dullcote; it's good stuff.
