HQ - 175
Captain, bike, relic blade, combi-flamer
175pts
Troops - 590
8 Bikers, attack bike, powerfist, 2x flamer
290pts
8 Bikers, attack bike, powerfist, 2x meltagun
300pts

2x Land Speeder Typhoon
180pts
2x Attack bike, 2x multimelta
100pts
1145pts
This is the base for a bikerlist I'm in the process of making. I'm kinda stuck on where to go from here.
I've fleshed out a couple of options:
Option 1: 355 (kinda limited in weapon options here, can switch away one HF, and can switch one weapon to an assault cannon)
Dreadnought, multimelta, heavy flamer
115pts
Dreadnought 105, assault cannon, storm bolter
115pts
Dreadnought 105, plasma cannon, heavy flamer
125pts
Option 2: 345
Vindicator
115pts
Vindicator
115pts
Vindicator
115pts
Option 3: 335 (325)
5 Scouts
75pts
Land raider (redeemer), multimelta
260(250)
Option 4:
Another bike squad (plasma?)
Would like some input on the list and the remaining 350ish pts

Captain is ok.
Troops look ok.
Fast Attack look ok as well.
Option 3 is so so, it’s the only tank, so AT weapons will know where to put their guns to better usage. Str 7 and 8 on everything, reserving str 9 and meltas on LR.
Option 1 is so-so… a bit more armor saturation…they can do back field duty and counter attack duty, but they will be left behind if you need to redeploy your army.
Option 2: I’ve tried…and is so-so as well. They look scary, and solve a lot of things bikers don’t want to engage, but side armor is pretty wide, they are still the only armor for AT weapons and require a turn or 2 to get in optimal range.
Both 1 and 2 are spammish too.
IMO, go with option 4, more bikers, but get another melta squad.
Up the MMAB’s to 3 man squads too.
In essense it would look sort of like my list....but the best you could do is experiment with all of them.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

A Salamanders bike army?
I guess you just really like the green colour scheme?
|
Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

Well, at higher points he can include Vulkan....then he'd have really fast moving TL flamer/meltas/multi-meltas........
A pretty scary force at higher points, but (IMO) only in higher points if Vulkan is around.

I say 2! But in fact I think you wouldn't have enough scoring units in that case. I suggest taking bikers first - say 3 full-size squads, kit them out fully. Then take 3 vindicators OR 6 speeders and/or attack bikes. Then fill out the remaining points.
Example:
3 big bike squads, captain = 1075, 3 vindicators = 345, 80 points left over - land speeder, 2 attack bikes if you trim.
3 bike squads, captain = 1075, 2 typhoons, 2 MM/HF speeders, 2 MM attack bikes = 420.

I'd also go with 3 big Biker squads led by a Captain.
If you take Vindicators, you're a bit limited tactic-wise,
since fast moving units can quickly reposition if necessary.
On the other hand, three Vindicators moving through the center heading for the enemy's throat are very scary.

Well, Salamanders basically use meltas and flamers.
Horde control is a serious issue.

Thanks for the advice.
Some of the question is what is more scary in 1500pts, 20 bikers + 3 tanks, or 30+ bikers. I'm thinking that 30+ bikers might actually be more scary for many armies, but they have their own issues too, that the support options are better equiped to handle.
I will probably try out the first two options first, checking if I'm comfortable with the low amount of scoring units, and then take the 30+ bikers for a spin, to see if that works out better.
A Salamanders bike army?
I guess you just really like the green colour scheme?
What, something wrong with black guys on bikes?
Just kidding, they will be sallies because I already have a sallie army, so it makes it much easier to mix and match assets between the normal sallies and the mounted sallies.
And it is also fun to rub fluff-nuts the wrong way

I did suspect that the use of nuts and rub in the same sentence might lead to something like that

I've come up with a couple more options. Playtesting will probably begin from next week, and I'm hoping to get this list to a level were I can actually bring it to a tournament with a hope of winning. (kinda tired of my mech IG for the moment). Some input on these new options would be nice, as that might mean that I don't have to bother playtesting them.
Option 5: 360
Vulkan
190pts
10 Tacticals, flamer, missile launcher
170pts
I see pretty much two ways of including Vulkan in this list, either like this, or with a 5-man squad in a pod. I don't own a pod, and don't really feel like getting one, so I chose this. Gives extra scoring units, gives me something to hold objectives in my backfield, adds bodies, and most importantly, twin-linkes all the flamers and meltas.
Option 6: 330
5 Terminators, cyclone
230pts
2x attack bike, 2x multimelta (beef up other AB's)
100pts
Gets the AB squads better numbers, adds some longrange to pop transports, and adds some guys that can counter-attack. Adds a bit of bodycount. Will struggle to keep up with the bikers, and.. termies look cool
Option 7: 355
Predator, lascannons
120pts
Predator, lascannons
120pts
Vindicator
115pts
Two tanks that will open up transports, and that can sling death from afar and one tank that can join the bikers up the field and take care of stuff they don't like. Decent armour saturation. Somewhat the same as LR+scouts, only with more guns and more armoured targets at the cost of scoring status and AV14 all around.
Option 8: 360
Tactical squad, plasmagun, plasmacannon
185pts
Tactical squad, flamer, plasmacannon
175pts
Just adds lots of bodies and scoring units. exact equipment on the guys not really decided, but probably something long ranged for HW at least. Gives the army a semi-horde feel. Option 5 might do much of the same job better though.
Option 9:
Librarian, bike, avenger, vortex of doom
135pts
+ something from another option ( tac-squad/smaller bike unit?)
The libby looks sexy. The bike allows him to use the most destructive powers efficiently, and he adds some cc. power to the bikers.
As a sidenote, this bikerlist is the coolest list I've tinkered with, it really opens your eyes for alternative units, making you use the entire codex. (I blame GW's mech focus - it quickly eliminates many units) I've never had 9 considered options on what to add to a list before. One moment, I was even looking at devastators (some longfangs would be nice to have )

The problem with biker lists....anything goes.
Like I tried to hint at, anything will do well and will also make you want other choices at the same time.
No one unit or set of units covers everything the bikers need (for better or worse)...so it ends up being a taste issue of which option you will choose.
As I said, I've spent 7+ months expanding my biker list to various points levels, I still don't have a clue to which of all the options to pick.
BUTTT, i do suggest a 3rd biker squad...just like everyone else's suggestion.
