If you're not from the US you might not know, Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving (Nov 27 this year) when Americans traditionally start our Christmas shopping and stores have HUGE sales.

Where people get beat up, stabbed and trampled to death because someone wants a TV at $200 less than it was the day before.

Good old corporate America where Christmas is less about the spirit of it's meaning and being with family and more about saving some money on material goods.

We can't blame corporate America for that, we're all adults here and we did it to ourselves.

See that's the problem with online store sales, you miss all the stabbings and tramplings...

And for you overseas people who things it's an exaggeration, it's not, someone was literally trampled to death at a Wal Mart last year when crowds of customers broke down the doors and stampeded into the store before it even opened. They then pitched a fit when told they needed to leave, because you know, the store was still closed and They Had Just Killed Someone.

That still pisses me off...some people are fething crazy.

It was a Walmart employee.. and it is pathetic.

Of course the boxing day sales here in Canada are pretty rough at times. And two years ago I had to leave a store because I got the last Wii a week before Christmas.

Black Friday originally got it's name because it was said that so much shopping went on that it was the first day many stores made it into the black (began to make a profit).

I kinda miss the after-thanksgiving-day-sales

The last couple of years, I've done all my xmas shopping online. No more berzerker charge at wal-mart.

I swear Xmas shopping has gotten even more frantic and brutal since the proliferation of energy drinks throughout American culture (well, world culture, but here's it's pretty OTT). People downing a "pick me up" halfway through some last-minute shopping turn into the Incredible Hulk on unfortunate store employees.

One more reason to make things yourself, order online, or shop early.

I used to work at a Wal-Mart.... man they do trample people, employees, babies, old people. Last years they trampled to dead one associate in Florida. And customers complained why the 3 lines around the crime scene where close.

WTF!!!
No such things over here, but what you guys tell is just unbelievable... Cannot imagine so much stupidity.

so, for those in the know, what does the warstore usually do for its sale? i'm assuming that they still haven't made the announcement for this year but what have they done in the past.

I used to work retail when I was a kid, and I swear to you, once I saw a woman full fist punch another woman for an xbox (the original when they first came out) That poor lady went DOWN. The sad part tho, she was arrested and such, but there were still like 6 of those things left. People are friggin weird

I think last year was an extra 5% off what was in the cart so for GW stuff it was 25% off.

They also do clearance sales of some of their not so popular stock at insane discounts.

Sweet, I was just going to place a Warstore order as well. I can wait a bit longer. And they've never done wrong by me!

The mystery bits grab bag was a black friday tradition, though now it's on the site full time. Not sure what the story is there, unfortunately.

IIRC it was an extra 5% off GW (25% total) and 10% off the rest of the store.

Plus some special offers.

That's why you should shop locally! We've got a Black Friday Sale every year as well. Ours runs Mallopen - noon, which this year is 5am in the frigging morning. I try to stab and trample at least one customer just to take out my annoyance at having to get up and go to work so early, so you're guaranteed your entertainment.

But bring a friend and toss him into the store ahead of you.)
