Okay Ladies and Gents, here's my dilemna.

I'm attending the 40K GT at the end of the month. Now my original plan was to take my Dark Eldar, as they're the army I'm best with. I've come up with a vicious list that I reckon would take me far. The downside here is that the army looks horrible. I made it 5 years ago, and haven't changed any of the core stuff since. Not only that, it's really difficult to transport, and I intend to sell it and restart my Dark Eldar army from scratch with many cool new conversions immediately after the tournie anyway.

Now the question is, should I ditch the Dark Eldar for now, and take my Guard instead? My Steampunk Praetorian Guard look beatiful on the tabletop. The downside is, I'd have to put in a lot more work to get a workable competitive army converted and painted on time. However, they look better, and carry easier. Yet my play will suffer from taking them as I'm only half as good with my Guard as I am with my Dark Eldar.

So. Which should I take?

(j/k) Do you care more about props as a general or as a modeller?

Pat that askala, O-H-I hate this stupid state

Now i have never been to a GT at all so dont know how the scoring works ie if painting counts towards your total score for that round. With that said if painting doesnt count towards your score or not a huge part of it then DE. If painting is a big part than IG and get working on them

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, its just a freight train coming your way!

I say go with the Dark Eldar. Even with a suitably gorgeous Guard army, there's going to be a lot of Guard there. Give your Dark Eldar one last run and let them go out with a bang. Being better with them is more important for a tournament anyway.

Not many people know how to fight against Dark Eldar, and if they're as ugly as you say they are, your opponents will be dumbfounded, giving you the tactical advantage. Take the sons and daughters of Commorragh to battle one last time before you sell them off. You'll probably regret it if you don't.

That's true. Most people seeing a terrible army assume it was created by a new player and let down their Guard a little.

Combine that with the fact that most players have probably never even played a Dark Eldar army, and you'll steamroll them.

Not to mention, DE as a whole, make people laugh. They think "oh god its a DE army. Those guys SUCK!!!! What a noob"
Youll totally have the upper hand, youll come out and just squash them. I agree tho, give them one last hurrah! At the very least, itll give you good luck towards your new DE youll build

Do you really think people at GT's don't know how to play DE though? I admit that that's a likely prospect at a local tournament, but I'm not so sure it'll be prevalent on one of this scale.

I'd consider DE.
Experienced players know how to counter DE.

Interesting dilema, I think it depends on what floats your boat! Having a really good looking army on the table, for people to go "Wow, look at that great looking army" or, getting some serious gaming done!

Most of the places I've been to, the armies generally looked like they have been painted by a colour blind 2 year old, with a wall painting brush! So, personally, I'd go for the giggles and have a great time gaming with an army you know how to play!

Man down, Man down....
