Rogue Daemonhunter fueled by Chaos

Talking with some people the other night, we came up with this idea for a list:
Vulkan
Master of Forge, Beamer
4x Dread w/ Multimelta, Heavy flamer
2x Dread w/MM, Storm bolter
3x Tactical squad w/ combi melta, melta, Missle Launcher, Rhino
9 Assault marines, flamer, fist, Rhino (for vulkan to ride in)
Basically, the list either rushes forward or braces for impact, depending on the opponents. Against mechanized forces, the MMs can shoot at range while setting up multi charges with dreads. The heavy flamers are to deal with hordes, and the assault squad is a nice unit that can be sacrificed if need be. If nothing else, the rhino can shoot a flamer and heavy flamer out the hatch.
has anybody seen anything like this? Would it work at all?

Sounds like a good idea to me, I think dreads are a pretty good balance of tough/killy/cheap.
Would you drop 2 combimeltas for heavy flamers on 2 dreads? It seems like a twin-linked HF is better than 1 twin-linked melta shot. Some MMs instead of MLs on the tac squads? MM vs ML depends on how you're using the tacticals I suppose, but certainly a twin-linked MM beats a ML if you plan on getting in to close range.
For that matter, does Vulkan's chapter tactics affect combi-weapons? I suppose so.

Yay another vulkan list.
Same thing is said everytime. You have no good long range tank killing abilities. You would lose against mech gaurd. Rethink the list.
Either put the dreads in drops or get a few lascannons on those dreads/tacts.

I'd replace the Assault Marines by Sternguard Veterans
and the the MotF join this unit.
Otherwise, the MotF is one his own and possible easy prey.
The rest looks pretty good.

Dont comment if your gonna be a jack-ass.
On the list, I would drop the meltas on the tactical squads for flamers, drop the combi-melta from the sargs and give the tac squad a multi-melta, then with the left over points try and give two, or three of the dreads autocannons.

Yes, it was bad. Three lascannons is pretty gak.

I'm not sure it was bad, but it certainly wasn't good. There is no good long range anti-tank in the Space Marine list, and certainly not a few lascannons. I play mech guard, and this list scares me, because Mech Guard relies mostly on meltas for anti-tank, and that means getting close. Multi meltas on a dread have a threat radius of 30", so if I deploy up the full 12" I can tag anything not completely hidden at the back. Anyway, against Mech gaurd I combat squad the tacticals, and I have three missile launchers and a conversion beamer at range. It's not ideal, but it'll threaten Valks and the like.
As for being an ass, you're allowed, but if you're not backing it up with real insight, you just become yet another voice that nobody listens to.
The master of the forge is the weak link in the list, to be sure. Normally he'd sit with a missile Launcher combat squad and shoot.
As for adding a sternguard squad... I'm not sure why that's so much better. I think it simply makes their rhino the clear #1 target.
OTOH, there's something to be said about putting the tacticals and/or assault squad in pods, or at least one. That gives me a great alpha strike capability.

Dont underestimate the power of sternguard, esp when you can take 2 Heavy Flamers and 3 Combi Meltas to decimate most targets with Vulcan's twin linked.
Sternguard x 5 - 195
Heavy Flamer x 2, Combi Melta x 3
Drop Pod

I think it looks like alot of fun. 6 dreads seems like a good core for an army. As has been said, it is short ranged, but I think it can manage.

Interesting. Anything with decent firepower though can turn dreads into shreds (lol rhyme win /efive!) I would truthfully cut vulcan and go with the MoTF Drop Pod Dread spam. 6x MM/HF/DCCW dreads and 4 tac squads with flamer / ML and a 5 man assault squad all in pods and you got 6 dreads in your face turn 1. DAMN. You list is already so close to this it's hard not to suggest. Really though you should probably take some AC/AC dreads to help on your lack of ranged firepower. I might also go with Las / Plas Razorbacks or TLLas and 5 man tac squads to accomodate another dread and more long-range firepower if you want to stick with MM dreads. I think the list would do OK but things with high longrange firepower (Tau, Guard, Dark Eldar, some Smurf and Eldar armies) would REALLY give you trouble.

I dont think this list will stand up very well against any savvy horde ork player.
You might have some flame, but all one has to do to defend vs that is spread out....and you dont have enough tanks to bunch them up with tank shocks.
Golga may have been a little jerky with his post. A more tactful way of putting it might be:
...this list looks to me like a list someone drew up after first seeing vulkan's abilities and not really thinking about opponents or the actual game in general. It's fine to concentrate on Vulkan's abilities, but this list does that and nothing else.

Heh, it was actually just created after playing against a six dreadnought list, and vulkan was added to boost their firepower.
I should have been clearer... this list wasn't really a serious hardcore attempt at a take on all comers, but an extreme spam list. I've also not played a single horde ork player since the new book came out, so I tend to forget they exist.
The initial idea was that maxed out MM dreads are both good and cheep. However, adding a master of the forge, and Vulkan, and something for vulkan to ride in... it all gets very expensive in a hurry.
