Your too lazy to put a line of white on your models?

There isnt alot of things you can do then mate, other than trying to wash black...

I like doing a line highlight of codex Grey... And then a thinner line of skull white...

If you are that lazy, you could paint dark grey then wash black.

Black is hard to do...if you're feeling adventurous you could try using blue edging, I always think it looks awesome when done right.

I think this is a good idea even if not lazy. Pure black should be used sparingly, if at all, even for black cloth and the like. What you ought to do is mix an appropriate dark gray basecoat.

could do reverse highlighting i do it on the armour. a white wash or similar colour. best to water down white paint than to use a white wash as they wash tends not to be heavy enough in pigment

It doesnt get any easier then painting it black, and then just drybrush really fast with a grey. If thats STILL too much for you, then I agree with Corpsesarefun, not much you can do

ive heard that a quick drybrush with grey does wonders, but apparently so does a white highlight. I want to know where do you place the white highlights on the model?

I've recently started using Vallero dark gray with badab black wash. I think the dark gray looks awesome, and you can't go far wrong with badab black.

Do a highlight of dark grey. That way, it can be a bit sloppier than a normal highlight and still add some definition. If you are feeling confident in your highlighting skills after that, then you can do a more fine highlight of light grey to add a little more definition.

I got sick of the flat black look too and started painting my models in bolt gun metal, then doing 3-4 washes of badab black. Makes it clearly 'black armour', but also quite distinct. It also allows the wash to settle in the details, giving you darker and lighter patches without extreme highlighting.

Some like it, some dont. Check my gallery if you wanted an example (the black legion of course).

The only thing I'd add, is that you don't have to highlight to white, i.e. with grey. Look at your other colors, and work with them. For example, you can drybrush with dark blue, dark brown, etc. White/grey is actually often a bad choice, as it ends up looking chalky.

The best color to highly black is charadon granite. it's perfect. And it look like you need to add some names to your ignore list. (They know who they are...)

this is the best way to do it. After you drybrush put the black wash over it and it tones it back down. I use the codex grey, it works the best for my all black sm army

You can highlight the edges and raised areas with a grey blue and it looks pretty good. Shadow Grey looks really good. Ice Blue with a little Chaos Black or Codex Grey works too. They both end up being nearly the same color, the ice blue mix tends to be a little more dull and less blue, if thats what you are going for.

There is a wonderful Brushthralls article on painting black.

Do not tell yourself that you are too lazy to use any given technique. Once you've used a technique a few times, you'll be able to do it more quickly, and you won't have that much trouble.

The way to get better is often as simple as trying something new or something that intimidates you a little.

If I want to do quick detail I do this.

1) paint the color you want as a base (black)
2) Wash it (badab black to get that flat look)
3) dry brush the same base color or codex grey.

Usually I'll do a very light brush of codex or fort grey then again picking out the highlights. Quick n Easy

Gathering the Informations.

The technique I'm planning on using for my Elysians is a 25/75 Charadon Granite/Adeptus Battlegrey mix washed with Devlan Mud for the body armor.

I'm a strong believer in that black, while being a difficult color to master, should never really be painted as just "black with grey highlight!" unless you're doing an urban camo variant...

Is it a cloak or robe? Dark gray highlight or drybrush on raised areas (folds).

Is it armor or a weapon? Bolt gun metal or mithryl silver highlight or drybrush on raised areas.

Pretty simple.

The advice for dark gray, followed by black wash, followed by dark gray on raised areas (folds and such) is a better idea.

Best of luck. Post pics. You will get more advice that way.
