Hi. Used to playing DE, however, going to start a new guard force. I want to them to be mobile, however, was unsure about chimeras or valks. I think valks will fit my fluff a bit better, so there they are. I'm aiming for 1500 pts and I think I have a few pts left over. Comments are most appreciated!

HQ: CCS, PP, 4 meltas

Troops: (x6) Vets, PP, 3 meltas

FA: (x7) Valks

O H I am in the Webway...

You should have some Valks w/ MMP and some Vendettas w/ HB if you want. A good mix or 2:1 is recommended by me.

Drop all the plasma pistols.

If you want more fluffy you could grab some Stormtroopers, but that would make it less competitive.

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster and if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you

Dropping the PPs will allow 4 valks with rockets. Don't think I can make room for vendettas or suicide stormies at 1500 pts.

HQ w/ CCS, 3 meltas
TR w/ Vets, 3 meltas (x6)
FA w/ Valk, MRP (x4), Valk (x3)

If my adding is right thats 1500 even. Any other thoughts?

Can I suggest instead:

CCS, 4 meltas - 90
5xVets, 3 meltas, demolitions - 650
3xValkyries with MRPs - 390
3xVendettas - 390

That's 1520. So drop one of the vehicles to a naked valk, or drop one demolitions upgrade. That's got one less squad/vehicle, but more firepower.

Eldar Corsairs: 4000 pts
Imperial Guard: 4000 pts

Corregidor 700 pts
Acontecimento 400 pts

I need more experience with Valks, but frankly... that looks like an insane list. However, I think you would lose against a CC army, like orks or nids. Even with the MRP I am not convinced you will be able to do enough damage to wipe out 1500 pts of CC craziness.

With the Demo Charges in Bounty's list, you get another round of pieplates. However both Orks and Nids can close 18" - 24" with most of their units. To use a demo on one of those armies it likely not to kill everyone; anyone that is left is going to get a free ride into CC, delivered by your Valks.

I really appreciate the input people!! I like Bounty's idea of dropping a squad. It does take up some of the anti-infantry slack and allows all the valks to be kitted up.

HQ: CCS, 4 meltas
TR: (x5) Vets, 3 Meltas, demo charges (on 4)
FA: (x6) Valks, MRP

With MRPs, is that two blasts or one per? May add a PP to the CO just to fill up points, unless someone can think of anything else for 10 pts. In any case, thats 19 meltas, 10 (16?) pie plates, 6 MLs.

Valkeryie with MRPs is 130pts. Vendetta with standard 3 TL Lascannons loadout is 130 pts.

Barksdale wrote:With MRPs, is that two blasts or one per?

The Valkerie MRPs give you 2 blasts per turn, one for each pod the Valk is carrying. Plus the added bonus that they are only STR 4 and thus considered defensive weapons, so you can still move and fire them!

you really should change 2 Valks into Vendettas. It's the same price and it's nice antitransport. No drawbacks (except the loss of horde control)

Hmm yeah having thought about it a bit I'm inclined to agree with yall on the vendettas. With all the mech lists around it can't hurt. Now, whats the best way to run all these? Three squads of two? Vendettas together and valks together.. I'm also undecided on the demolitions. At 120 pts I'm toying with the idea of a suicide stormie squad w/ plasmas... Any other ideas on what to do with a free 130 pts?

So I was able to test out a few variants and here is the final list. Thanks to everyone who gave their input! As soon as the models are stripped and the 6 ships arrive I'll be doing a WIP.

CCS w/ 4 meltas

Vets, 3 meltas, PP
Vets, 3 meltas, demolitions (x4)

Valk, MRPs (x4)
Vendetta (x2)

Too much melta methinks still. If you want a little horde control also, pick 2 vet squads and give them 2 Flamers + 1 Heavy Flamer for the same 30 points as 3x Meltas. 3 to 6 flamer templates along with 4 to 8 MRP backup pie plates will slaughter a horde of 30-50 baddies in a single strike easily, even in cover. Give their squadmates shotguns for good measure as well, just for those extra few dice rolls - a charge may still be needed to mop up what's left of the horde. Heavy flamers are also good for slightly tougher nuts, such as rear hits on rhinos and scouts in cover. Eldar jetbikes and Tau gunlines become a joke as well.

Has nobody thought of the fact that since you have to talk the air cavalry in squadrons it makes it a 4 on the pen table to kill them?

I wish they didn't have to move in squadrons but rules are rules. These guys are fragile, however, with the right tactics you can minimize losses in situations like that. I did consider doing a recon unit outfitted in chimeras instead but paratroopers are full of awesomeness.
