Hi all,
I just introduced myself and wanted to jump straight in with a model I'm working on.
Let me just say, I LOVE Lizardmen, but I HATE (and/or suck at) Fantasy.
A few weeks ago I came across a thread on B&C (another favorite lurk spot) in which people were downright bashing some dude because he had the idea of giving space marine weapons to Lizardmen. Instant flame-war, but it gave me an idea. With a good level of conversion and kitbashing you could create a pretty cool army. Since I have absolutely no interest in playing marines I went with something different, Tau!
Sorry for the long winded introduction, heres some pictures:

The first thing I made is a kitbashed XV-25 Temple Guard

I like him so far, but I need to add some more Lizardman bits and GRIMDARKify him a bit.
In the next few days I'll try to get a partner for him, and finish up my Kroxigor XV-8.
C&C greatly appreciated (but please no "Booooo, get your fantasy models out of here").

Thanks
-CC

It's an interesting conversion. I'm a little confused, though... is it intended as a Tau stand-in for 40K, something wierd for WHFB, or just a neato model to paint up for something different?

Also, I've moved this to Blogs, as it's looking like an ongoing project.

It would be pretty neat to use them as "space lizards", and I suppose you could use the Tau rules if you wanted to play causually. Tournaments may be a bit more difficult to talk you way into though.

Still, the WIP looks pretty interesting. Can't wait to see it painted.

Cheers

If I give you a cookie, will you go away? If I give you the bag, will you go far, far away?

Thanks for the replies.
@insaniak: Yes, its just a counts as Tau Stealth Suit, I should've been more clear. Thanks for moving the thread, I was going to start a blog once I had a little bit more to show
@paulguise: I almost always just play with friends, or with the guys at the local shop, none of which should mind. I have my tyranids if I want to go for tournament play.
I've added some more bits to this guy, including cables running from his head to the jetpack to make it seem "hard-wired." This week I'll be experimenting with a salt dip for reposing the others (fantasy models tend to be very uniform).
As far as paint goes I was thinking a darkish brown skin with brown-orange scales, and a mid-green for the armor and weapons.

Edit: A couple of pictures of the additions.
First the jetpack control cables:

Nice. I think that you should make some Snipers, and Drones could be like, snakes made of robotics that has a Pulse pistol. in its mouth

If I had a dollar for every dollar I spent I'd have all my money back.

Awesome. I don't see why it would be hard to get into a tournament. Aren't those all GW parts?

Also, I'd assume you're going to do some counts-as-Kroot...

@Brotheralexos: Thanks, and that's not a bad idea. I'm not sure if I'm just going to keep regular drones for simplicity or not.
@Owain: Thanks, and yeah its all GW parts and WYSIWYG. I've been contemplating potential kroot. Should I base them off saurus bodies? Or keep the auxiliary relationship and use a different race. If i go with the first option, then kroot and fire warriors would both be based on Saurus, and I'm not sure if the low tech on half of them would seem weird or not.
Other than that my ideas so far are:
Crisis Suits: Kroxigor kit bash with jet pack, weapons, and other bits.
Fire warriors: Saurus with rifles, shoulder pads and other bits.
Pathfinders: Skinks with carbines and the leftover fire warrior helmets.
Piranha: I was thinking two Cold One Riders on a large flying base with a burst cannon and seeker missile.
Hammerhead: Railgun mounted on a stegadon with some armor.
Any other ideas are very welcome.

Thanks

I am not really sure what you're looking for really but, from the context I am assuming you're just trying making some crazy, zany, space lizards instead of some super-fluff army, which I am all for. I do wonder why Tau? Lizard people generally seem more close combat oriented (at least to my eyes) but really, crazy, Zany, Space Lizards need no explanation.

I would suggest though, Saurus Warriors and the like seem to burly and tough to be Fire Warriors in my opinion and I suggest using skinks as both Fire Warriors and Pathfinders (you can use the awesome little chameleon eyed guys as pathfinders) and using Saurus' as Kroot, for your Stealth Suits (probably covered in armor) and yo pilot ships or something. Stegadons as Broadsides with the 'Slow and Purposeful' upgrade would be cool. Terradon riders could be Vespids if you want to use them. If you could find some kind of small bird model to make into drones, that would be cool. Hell if you wanted to, Slann mages could be Hammerheads (They do float).
Anyway I have always liked the idea of using Lizard men for 40k too as I don't play Fantasy much. I always thought of using them as Tyranids though and the ides of them as Tau is so funny it's great so I am looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

I actually think kroot, as is, would blend in well with the lizardmen models. Or kitbash kroot models a bit with spare lizardmen parts.

@Rook: Why Tau? I'm a xenos lover and wanted to try them. Also this http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Slann. They seem relatively secluded, with a high level of technology. Thats enough of a fit for me.
I was actually thinking the opposite of what you suggested, lol. Stego Hammerheads and Slann broadsides. I put together a stego last night that I bought when the new lizardman book came out. Even without the howdah it's nearly as long and tall as a Wave Serpent.
@Morgrim: In the link above, there is an article about the Jokaero, another race "created" by the slaan which resemble apes. I could just cover the kroot in fur.
Priority on my list right now is to finish painting the last of my Eldar, but I will continue to experiment with these guys. I'll try to get the Kroxicrisis into a showable state.

Thanks

Surely they could just count as tau auxilieries? That way you could use them with the normal tau models if the mood strikes you

Great start by the way

I think they will look awesome with the tau technology , but I would play them as marines cause they are big and brutish looking and would fit better with a marine stat line .

i think saurus would have been better as fire warriors, and leave kroxigors for the suits and such...
anyway, good lookin models, pretty fun stuff...

@Krusty: Saurus (possibly even skinks, i need to see which works better) will be fire warriors. Krox are crisis suits, but they are much too big for stealth suits (which aren't too much bigger than fire warriors).
Anyway, here are some pics of the crisis suit:

And a comparison shot with the stealth suit.

So far they look really good but I think you should have Saraus warriors be kroot, and skinks be fire warriors.

Thanks for all the input.
@Lunahound: Don't despair, Broadsides will instead be Slann, for good reason. Broadsides stay as far from the enemy as possible and act as stable platforms for large weapons, so they should reflect that in a static pose. On the other hand, crisis suits are much more mobile, covering more of the field, usually with shorter ranged weapons.
@JD21290: Yes, Steggie hammerheads
@FlammingGaunt: I'm slowly being convinced that Skinks would be better fire warriors, but I'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks
