Hi all, I'm making myself a squad of flame falcons . For those of you who don't know what the flame falcons are, they are space marines that are completely immolated in fire that have nearly been wiped out by the grey knights for being "mutants" but are still loyal to the Emperor. So far I got myself a tactical squad and a commander and started to sculpt flames on the marines but one thing remains a problem.....What is their Colour Scheme?!

I think you answered your own question...
Their color scheme is FIRE!
Seriously though, that's probably how I'd paint them. Red or orange armor with a lot of fire sculpted on and that glowy, source-lighting look.

They sound cool, but even Lexicanum doesn't know.
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Flame_Falcons
Lexicanum wrote:Little is known about them, except that they were declared Excommunicate Traitoris within a century of their creation, thereby becoming one of the Renegade chapters. It is said during a campaign on Raffenburg's World, their largest battle yet, that members of the First Company, who were stationed at the front lines at the fiercest of the fighting, began to immolate. This did not harm the Space Marines, only their foes. The lines were reinforced and when news was reported back that the flames were helping the Space Marines, the commander thought it was a miracle, although he had already sent for an Inquisitor, fearing mutation.
The Inquisitor, however, had a different view. Eventually all of the Flame Falcons began to immolate and they began a celebration on their homeworld after the victorious campaign. The Inquisitor had called for the Grey Knights who came and destroyed the mutant marines. It is not known how many marines survived, but there have been sightings of immolated marines on more than one Imperial battlefield.
They sound cool, but this is the first I've even heard of them.
All that seems to be known is that they were a 21st founding chapter, mutated and founded on Lethe.
I'll try looking for more information.

Apparently this is their colour scheme. Only the pictures exist on Google though, the thread they were in is gone so I don't know if it's the real colour or just something someone came up with.

There really isn't any more. GW have never published a picture, just a couple of paragraphs of fluff over the years.
They're marines, they're from the Cursed Founding, they're on fire, and the Inquisition doesn't like it.
And they're not the Fire Hawks, who (allegedly ) became the Legion of the Damned. A common identity mistake.

It seems like things started going bad around the time of the 21st founding.

Though by the sound of things you could use the LotD rules for them without much problem. Instead of Marines with a ghostly visage though, it's flaming Marines on fire.

You've pretty much chosen the best kind of chapter. Fluff but no colour scheme.
My marine chapter is the same (although secret right now).
You're in a great position to be creative with these guys. I'd like to see a dark purple / midnight blue armour; this will contrast really well with the flames.
Also look into getting some flamey bitz, like the WHFB empire flagellants; they have lots of torches and burny things you could use as heads or details...
This sounds exciting, and I'd love to see it (ironically) led by a radical inquisitor too. The possibilites are endless.

Do me a favor and please incorporate the phrase "Fire Marines on Fire!" somewhere in the army. Either rename the chapter, paint it on a tank, something!
Jeez, the Inquisition is such a buzzkill sometimes. Although if you think about it I guess it isn't that big of a loss, the Flame Falcons could have been very easily beaten by a bunch of waterguns.

I decided to go for a firey orange and golden yellow mix for their colour scheme alongside blazing orange and blood red flames once I get around to painting. I'm going to use LotD rules.
I decided to have a mix of marine models, some models are from old 2nd ed blood angels, a rogue trader marine with powerfist, a few AoBR marines while the captain is the 3rd ed captain but I might change it to the emperor's champion just for the awesome look and pose. I'm also using the Black Templars upgrade kit for all the flamey bitz
and yes....I'll make a tank or something with Fire Marines on Fire!

You don't have to if you don't want your army to be jokey. I'd probably paint it on the bottom of a rhino or something, if you're the type of guy who flips his rhinos over when they blow up.

That would look good. If I remember correctly the Flagellants from WHFB come with a flaming head that would be perfect for the Inquisitor as he runs off. They couldn't have been taken out by one Inquisitor anyway

God that takes me back! I think that's from WD92 or 93 when SMs were 1st shown.
The only chapter that had been really established were the Dark Angles & they were black.

hi all there's a special set of rules for flame falcon, got it on my hd somewhere gimme a second and i'll dig it up....
here is my translation from german (yeah i know it sucks but have mercy on me)
here we go:
The Flame Falcons:
It was at the battle of Raffenburg's World that things began to go awry for the Flame Falcons. At the height of the battle, their largest engagement at that point, the First Company were observed to spontaneously immolate at the height of the fiercest fighting against the rebel forces. Fearing witchcraft, the chapter's commander reinforced the front line and sent for an Inquisitor who was accompanying the Imperial army. When it was reported by the reinforcing Space Marines that the members of the First Company were not dead, but were in fact fighting with renewed savagery covered in flames to which they themselves were immune, the commander declared it a miracle, a gift sent from the Emperor.
The Inquisitor had a different opinion. Knowing that he could not assault the Flame Falcons immediately, he bided his time, witnessing the remainder of the chapter undergo the same change as the First Company.
Upon the successful completion of the campaign, the Flame Falcons returned to Lethe in celebrant mood convinced, as they were, that their unique ability was a manifestation of the Emperor's grace. Soon after, the Grey Knights, at the Inquisition's behest assaulted Lethe, ruthlessly destroying the cursed chapter. It is thought that a small number of Flame Falcons escaped that day, but of their fate, nothing whatsoever is known.
Flaming Aura:
The brothers of the flame falcons are afflicted with a terrible mutation which covers their bodies in ardent flames. the inquisition shows no tolerance aginst such mustations and attacks and thesroys them whenever encountered. The lambent fire which covers these space marines makes it difficult for enemies to hit(focus?) them. Space Marines of the flame falcons chapter recieve a 5+ coversave against ranged attacks and always count as being in cover for the purposes of charging. However, units with this mutation may never be carried by transports or other vehicles.

yeah thats the old 4th ed ruels though so they are no longer legit.
May I also suggest you grab a Empire Wizard as he is very flamey and will work welkl with plastic marine bits
also maybe convertin ghte hsoulder pads here to replace the blood drop with flame would work nicely as well

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal. |
