Well this might be a silly question. are there any limits to the weapons that can be fired from a chimeras firing ports ? hevy weapons, meltas, flamers, ect? might be silly but a friend said that you cant, but ive never used firing ports so im unsure

Nope. 5 models may fire one weapon each from the single fire point.

My guess is that it is meant to represent the previous codex where two guy could stand up from the back hatch and 3 guys would have LOS and thus shoot from the weapon slits. the fact that the weapon slits seem to only fit lasguns is a point of confusion.

Too bloody right on the point of confusion there. Hate Chimeras.

But yes OP, you can fire any weapon but you still have their normal limits i.e a Autocannon team in a Chimera still cannot move and shoot (If the Chimera moves it can't shoot), Marines in a rhino can only fire 12" if the rhino moves because boltguns are rapid fire etc

It's worth mentioning that there is some dissension when it comes to firing template weapons from Chimera fire points, but the general consensus is that you are allowed to do so.

The argument against it is that the rules for template weapons state that you can never place the template such that it touches a friendly model but at the same time you are forced to measure range from the top hatch of the Chimera. This means the template must always either be placed too far from the hatch (breaking the second rule) or touch the Chimera hull (breaking the first rule).

The workaround is to either fire from the hatch and ignore the "can't touch another model" part, or measure from anywhere on the hull of the Chimera and ignore the "use the hatch to measure range" rule. I personally go with the former, as giving yourself another 3 inches of flamer range (at least!) is a bit excessive.

Best to just clear it up with opponents beforehand and avoid any confusion.

Welcome to dakka, NOOB!

No, more seriously, dakka is for sensible people.
(Also, only reason I can see for 3/5 of the shots from chimeras not being the mounted lasguns is that it would be a right pain to play for newbies.) Everything else is covered by other people.

I collect:
Guard - 2k of mostly infantry
DA - 2k of deathwing, 2k of other bits (no vehicles)
Sisters - mostly converted/proxy because I'm waiting for therange to go plastic.
Tau - 2k with no riptides because I can.
