Ok! I'm unsure if this truly belongs in whfb or 40k but here is my summary.
Do you like the Chaos Marines and Cultists? or do you prefer the men of the frozen north? with some little more then barbarians and some living weapons?
My thoughts... Fantasy! and why.
Chaos is a actual civilization not just religious heretics you could actually say these are the "Pagans" of Warhammer aside from say Eldar or Lizard men.
(I don't consider crons Pagan cause their ancient)
As well the idea of Vikings appeals to me.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Again, not sure where this goes.

Vikings are pretty sweet. But thats what we have space wolves for.
I like the WH40K depiction of Chaos. 1) Because World Eaters decked out in Khorne icons looks bad ass, and 2) because fluff wise, a force which can corrupt and pervert the paragon warriors of humanity's defense is far more compelling and interesting than making some savage vikings more savage and, well, vikingy.

This topic seems okay for 40k background.
I have to agree with you, Shadow. I think the WHFB Warriors of Chaos are cooler and have more solid fluff than the all-over-the-place Chaos marines of 40k. I don't the Northmen of the Old World are simply Vikings--they're also Mongol-like, or basically any real-world "barbarian" from the unknown and inhospitable regions far from "civilization." While I think the idea of corrupted Space Marines is cool, it doesn't always pay off fluff-wise. Fabius Bile doesn't have any Marine feel to him at all. Something similar, I mean to a lesser degree, can be said about Ahriman. And Endova, have you never heard of Archaon?

@Manchu I feel this way too. They also seem a lot more "real" then the Chaos marines of 40k

Yeah, "real" seems like a strange word for it but that's the one I was thinking of, too. I think the return of official LotD armies would help Chaos seem a bit more believable in 40k.

Do Plaguemarines exist in Fantasy? No...
Is 40k THE only sci-fi game with actual sorcery and magic, which is something everyone seems to think belongs in fantasy? Yes...
This is why I like 40k chaos better

I think you're mistaken. Try Cthulhu Tech, for example.
Also, there are no marines at all in WHFB so I'm not sure that the fact that there are no Plague Marines is especially poignant. Nurgle is present in the WHFB world, however. Take a look at the Lord of Nurgle model. He's pretty cool

There are nurgle worshipers in whfb. A nurgle Warrior is damned close to a plague marine.

Ha, I guess I should also say that I prefer 40k fluff and gaming to WHFB lest anyone think I'm a general hater. Chaos Warriors are one of the three things I think WHFB does better than 40k. (The other two things are Dwarves and Skaven. )

I agree with shadow and manchu here chaos in fantasy "fits" better than 40k. Not to say i dont like my 1k sons any less but maybe it is because we are all more accustomed to seeing the evil in fantasy as something more similar to a human. Where in scifi evil is more expressed as an alien or an alien looking race like nids. Just my thoughts.

Well, you have the truly alien in 40k--things that are just incomprehensible to humans like the 'nids (most extreme), Eldar, and Tau (less extreme). But 40k Chaos is still very human--it's all about doubt, pride, corruption, etc. I think my criticism of 40k Chaos is that it doesn't seem as coherent as the other factions. They don't seem like they were really ever marines. I'd reiterate the point about Fabius Bile. How was ever a noble Marine?
For the record, I think Thousand Sons are one of the most interesting pieces of 40k Chaos fluff.

Yeah Fabius makes me scratch my head alot. Maybe he was once a medic? He doesnt really intrigue me as a character so no idea.

Oh and I love my Slanneshi marines as well. I just think Chaos doesn't get the same rep it really should in 40k.

I agree pretty much with Manchu here. I generally prefer 40k, but Chaos seems better depicted in Fantasy.
Although my favourite part about 40k Chaos is the Fall of the Eldar, and the Eldar relation to Chaos.
