Hi,

I'm planing to start an IG army of 1,750 points. After spending some time on forums and looking around, I've come up with this list (which I agree is not the most original list):

[HQ] Company Command Squad (145 Pts)
Meltagun (x4)
Chimera (Heavy Bolter; Turret Multi-Laser)

[Troops] Veteran Squad (170 Pts)
Plasmagun (x3); Chimera
Chimera (Heavy Flamer; Turret Multi-Laser)

[Troops] Veteran Squad (170 Pts)
Plasmagun (x3); Chimera
Chimera (Heavy Flamer; Turret Multi-Laser)

[Troops] Veteran Squad (100 Pts)
Meltagun(x3);

[Troops] Veteran Squad (100 Pts)
Meltagun(x3);

[Fast Attack] Vendetta Gunship Squadron (130 Pts)

Twin-linked Lascannon (x3)

[Fast Attack] Vendetta Gunship Squadron (130 Pts)
Twin-linked Lascannon (x3)

[Heavy Support] Leman Russ Squadron (230 Pts)
1 Leman Russ Executioner
Executioner Plasma Cannon; Heavy Bolter; Plasma Cannon Sponsons (x2)

[Heavy Support] Leman Russ Squadron (380 Pts)
1 Leman Russ Battle Tank
Battle Cannon; Heavy Bolter; Plasma Cannon Sponsons (x2)
1 Leman Russ Battle Tank @ [190] Pts
Battle Cannon; Heavy Bolter; Plasma Cannon Sponsons (x2)

[Heavy Support] Manticore Rocket Launcher (160 Pts)

Storm Eagle Rockets; Heavy Bolter

Basically, the questions are:

1. Do I need more firepower against horde lists ?

2. There is any other all purpose tank superior to LMBT?

3. Should I replace Manticore with 2x Griffons?

4. Do I have enough troops? 40 soldiers is a bit too low for me if you ask me.

5. Any other suggestions?

Thank you in advance,

T.

I think this list is pretty groovy and has a nice plasma theme. One thing, I would changed all hull mounted heavy bolters to heavy flamers. You don't need to worry about the guards poor ballistic skill and the heavy flamer has the same profile, just less range

Oh, I have found colossus is a nasty piece of kit. And a demolisher is a better tank than a battle tank

I suggest dropping one of your Leman russes (exec or LRBT, not a huge difference) and sticking in another vet squad in a chimera. You'll still have 3 pie-plate throwing vehicles, and you'll have another scoring unit, as well as more tactical flexibility (not many things in the game that need to be targeted by 2 battlecannon templates and 4 plasma templates)

I disagree with mercer about the demolisher/LRBT thing, if you've got plenty of anti-tank already, the LRBT is better than the demolisher due to long range (and 15 points cheaper).

Anti-horde - I think you've got enough, since all the chimeras should have HFs, the manticore and LRBTs are pretty good at it. If you're worried, and you took my advice about the tanks, you'll have 35 points to spend (LRBT is 190 pts, vets in chimera with meltas is 155) so replace a few special weapons with heavy flamers.

Eldar Corsairs: 4000 pts
Imperial Guard: 4000 pts

The demolishers are more better for anti tank and smacking land raiders. Battle tanks are limited to what they shoot :(

Demolishers are only mediocre at anti tank, a scatter of 2 or 3 inches will usually move the hole off even a land raider. For 15 points you gain mediocre tank hunting, the ability to deal with TEQ (can already be handled by the plasma vet squads), the ability to instant kill T5 models (will rarely be used) and a 48 inch drop in range (this is a huge decrease, especially in high points limit games where there are tons of things waiting to mess up any tanks that get too close). At 1750 points you can afford to specialize your units, you don't need generalists like the demolisher.

Hello,

Thanks for answers, the replies we're insightful. I made some changes to the list.

[Fast Attack] Valkyrie Assault Carrier Squadron (130 Pts)

[Fast Attack] Vendetta Gunship Squadron (130 Pts)
Twin-linked Lascannon (x3)

[Heavy Support] Leman Russ Squadron (230 Pts)
1 Leman Russ Executioner
Executioner Plasma Cannon; Heavy Bolter; Plasma Cannon Sponsons (x2)

[Heavy Support] Leman Russ Squadron (330 Pts)
1 Leman Russ Demolisher
Demolisher Siege Cannon; Heavy Bolter
1 Leman Russ Demolisher
Demolisher Siege Cannon; Heavy Bolter

[Heavy Support] Manticore Rocket Launcher (160 Pts)
Storm Eagle Rockets; Heavy Flamer

At this moments my final concerns are:

1. Should I replace the 3rd Vendetta with a Valk (at this moment all 3 skimmers are placked with vet/CCS Melta-guys)

2. If I should replace Demolishers with LMBT

Thanks in advance,

T.

Change those heavy bolters on the tanks to heavy flamers. Same profile and you don't need the gaurds poor BS skill . Oh, allowing no cover is a bonus too.

1. You give yourself another anti tank unit if you do replace a standard valkyrie with a vendetta. Just weigh it up if you do need the more anti tank. The valkyrie is really just a fast moving chimera.

2. I say no. Ok the battle tank is 15 points cheaper and has a much bigger range. But the demolishers gives you a whopping s10, terminators laugh off b.t's, they fear demolishers. With s10 you have a much stronger chance of taking on vehicles, instead of s8. For that extra 15 points its worth it. By turn 2 I find my demolishers are often in range and I play on a 48" board.

Hey,

Well the point of keeping Heavy bolters on tanks was the fact I'm planing to stay at range from enemy units and shoot them with the main guns. Heavy bolters, were more like a bonus.

About the valks, I see them more then just fast moving chimeras.. Once they deliver the vets, they can move around and engage enemy infantry... with quite a lot of punch. I have played Eldar in 4th edition, and I see them as the Serpents with double Shuriken cannons. Of course they don't have energy fields, but on the other hand the list has so many AV12+ threats that the enemy need to decide what to engage.

Regards,

T.

I've tried heavy bolters and they don't do so good. Admittly you can stay at range, but I'd rather have a weapon which allows no cover save.

Well it is a fast moving chimera as it has the same weapons, apart from the missiles which replaces the front heavy bolter. Its near enough exactly the same, excepts move faster and does the same job
