I'm doing ulthwe' scheme for eldar and not sure which wash goes with black. I'm more of a wash man than highlights, but I was thinking a light dry brush of grey followed by details and a wash would look nice.

Any ideas?

My preferred way of painting black does not involve black paint at all. I use Charadon Granite followed by Badab black wash.

Obviously, washes do not help at shading unless they are darker than the colour that is to be shaded. That being said, it doesn't make much difference which wash you use with black because there is little or no effect. If you use it to smoothen the hightligts, then the choice of wash depends on the tone of highlight you want.

That place is the harsh dark future far left with only war left.

Like I said there will be a light dry brush of grey for highlights.

IMO, I wouldn't drybrush black areas at all.

I suggest doing a nice clean black basecoat, then doing a big highlight (leaving recesses black) or 2:1 Black and Kommando Khaki.

After dry, wash with Badab Black and make certain to use a Matte Varnish Spray when they are completely finished to remove the 'sheen' that the washes leave behind quite often.

Any chance that either (or both!) of you have any pictures using your techniques?

Thanks!

Thanks, though this is ulthwe' scheme which is black so kommando khaki with badab black wash wouldn't work and just look dirty.

Why not use Baal Red or Levithian Purple or Asurmen Blue over the grey drybrush.
It should come out looking moslty black, but will have a sheen and suggestion of the colour (which will look very striking).
Red/Pink, Purple, and Blue all look very good on eldar models.

Well I'm thinking of a change of scheme.

I'm thinking perhaps something like ultramarine blue, gold raised parts, bleached bone weapon and face panel with green eyes.

Or, purple with gold or black raised parts. Purple does sound different and I can get a purple wash.
