I thought of this idea in about 30 seconds while waiting for the bus today so some work may been needed.

Major "Blackeye" Smith was recruited into the Imperial Navy when officials saw his aeronautical potential after he single-handedly repaired and flew a wrecked Lightning at the age of 17. Soon after his recruitment he was banished into the Penal Legion when he delibretly flew his Lightning into an Orca. Although the Orca was destroyed, he was deemed to be "casting away his tool of the Emperor's will" and so was sent to the Penal Legion.
During the Third War for Armageddon, the desperate call for pilots caused Smith's re-recruitment into the 81st Armageddon Airbourne. Soon after, his Thunderbolt recieved major damage from a Fighta, causing it to be repaired using much more dense Admantuim alloys, due to the lack of materials. While he has traded his Lightning for a Thunderbolt he still manages to create a menace of the skies, even after his ammo is expended.

Major "Blackeye" Smith
Points: 250
Blackeye uses a Thunderbolt model with the following profile
BS:4
Armour: Front 12 Side 10 Rear 10

Weapons:
Twin-linked Lascannon. This may be traded for an extra Autocannon at no extra points cost.
2 Twin-Linked Autocannons.

Special Rules:
Collision: Blackeye may pilot his Thunderbolt into an enemy flyer as a last-ditch attempt. You and your opponent must both roll 2D6 and apply any multiplers explained below. If Blackeye scores higher he rams the flyer. This is worked out exactly as a bombing run which the targer is an enemy non super-heavy flyer. Roll a D6 for both pilots and consult the charts.

D6 Modifiers
Target is facing Blackeye (45 degree arc) +2
Target is facing directly away from Blackeye (45 degree arc) +1
Target is at any other angle from Blackeye -2

Enemy Flyer Damage
1-2: Near Miss - No damage
3: Wing Clip - Weapon destroyed
4: Pilot shaken
5-6: Flyer Destroyed

Blackeye Damage
1-3: Blackeye destroyed
4: Weapon shaken
5: No damage
6: No damage and may continue to ram another flyer exactly as before.

If a flyer is destroyed then the wreckage crashes onto the enemy. Place a large blast marker under the original position of the flyer and scatter it 4D6". Any model under the marker suffers a S8 Ap4 hit and is pinned.

The ability to ram and his AV12 is represented by the heavier admantium the nose of the Thunderbolt is plated with. This is justified by the lack of wing mounts.

Thoughts? Comments?

Thanks,

Valkyrie

It shouldn't be this easy to ram another flyer. Both planes are flying through 3d space in an extremely large expanse called the sky, so it is very easy to dodge such a maneuver.

I don't see how it could be safer for him than the opponent to smash into each other.

too one sided. I think it should be more dangerous for him than the opponent, but then if he succeeds, the enemy wreckage crashing down can be a scattered explosion.

or something like that, to spice things up a bit.

Ok I've edited the rules: I've added the possibility of crashing wreckage, and increased the risk of damage to Blackeye when ramming, as well as changing the rules for hitting the flyers when ramming.
