Hey gang I bought some nice bases for my first models but I'm not entirely sure how to paint them.
Pics of said bases----> http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/temple-bases-round-25mm-p-134.html

My marines are painted as Dark angels so I need a colour that complements them.

So basically: 1, Do you think the way the bases are painted in the picture above would go well with a DA colour scheme? 2 How would I go about painting them like that?
3, Has anyone got any other good ideas ?

Sorry I dont have a camera for any pics and sorry if that offends anyone but I still need some help.

Thanks all

D

A good neutral colour like those depicted would work well.
I would make it a shade or 2 darker than any robes you do for your vets.

I would base coat them Iyandon Darksun then wash them with Develan Mud.
Dry brush with the Darksun after then a final highlight of Darksun mixed with a bit of bleached bone.

as there is only one colour on the bases & I recommended a foundation paint as the base colour either black or white would work.
You could also try an automotive primer. There's a store in the uk called Halford's that does a very nice dirty yellow that might even take away the need to base coat all together.
Check out my gallery - renegades page - for an example of the colour this gives.

For resin I would always prime with a spray not by hand.
Check the resin for any shineyness - this might be release agent. FW models are more & more slimey these days and need not only washing (in mild warm soapy water) but also either a scrape with a knife or a light brush with a brass-bristled brush.
I don't know the condition that you bases may come in, in repect to the release agent.
The key (IMO) is if it's shiney it needs a good wash, if it's matt then you should be able to prime straight on to it.

As for gluing - use superglue; but it 'grabs' really quickly so you have to get the pieces lined up 1st go.

Good luck

Adam
