So I'm starting a homebrew Marine army for mostly friendly play. I'll probably run at least two rhinos or razorbacks with squads and two drop pods with variable cargo (perhaps dreads). For HQ I'll probably be running a terminator librarian eventually. I know a guy who wants AoBR orks and so we might both purchase sets and swap. If I'm starting a vanilla marine army I can't go wrong can I? That would give me two tactical squads and two dreads and a captain. What do people do with the terminators? They don't have storm shields after all.

You can make your own storm shields from plasticard.

Even if you don't use the Termies straight away, you'll almost certainly want a Termie squad in the long run, so hang onto them.

The termies would be fine, you could also buy a box of assault termies and make 5 th/ss and 5 of the AOBR ones into lightning claws. and use the other 5 as tactical ones (Could buy a 5 man tact termie box for the heavy weapons and then make a assault cannon and cyclone as heavies)

You could also buy bitz for either assault cannons or cyclone missile launchers, and properly kit out your terminators. For every 5 termies you can take one of these. The only problem is that you'll have 2 sergeants and 8 troopers - you could possibly swap for a 9th.

Two tactical squads in rhinos, two dreads in drop pods, a squad of terminators and an HQ is a pretty solid army. Not many scoring units, but solid. Should come pretty close to 1000 too.
