Question on Buboes came up this weekend at a tournament:
The player wanted to pick off my Skink Priest on an Engine of the Gods with Buboes - I told him he'd have to randomize. He countered with the spell lets him choose. I went off the FAQ for the Lore of Metal Burning Iron spell, which lets you do the same exact thing. The FAQ states that since it's still 1 unit but a multi-part model, Burning Iron still has to randomize. Same logic - so should Buboes.
The judges didn't want to make a call, so we diced for it. Went my way, but I'm curious if anyone else has seen this.

T.O.

buboes says pretty much the same thing as rule of burning iron, so the FAQ would be a precedence.

Please put this on your sig if you know someone, work for someone or are related to someone who suffers from stupidity. Stupidity is real and should be taken seriously. You could be sitting next to a sufferer right now. There is still no known cure for stupidity and sympathy does not help. But we can raise awareness.... 93% won't copy and paste this because they don't know how to copy and paste

Yes, you still randomise.

Buboes lets you target a MODEL, and according to the rulebook a rider and monstrous mount are a single model.

Appreciate the feedback - another example I found of this is in the Warrior of Chaos FAQ for the bloodskull pendant:

Q. Does the Bloodskull Pendant inflict a single hit on a multipart model (mounted character, Stegadon) or one hit on each component? If a single hit, how is it distributed?
A. It’s a single hit (as a multipart model is still ‘one model’), randomized as shooting.

Also from the "Rule of Burning Iron FAQ":
Q. The Rule of Burning Iron from the Lore of Metal states ‘the spell hits a single model (chosen by the caster, no targeting restrictions apply except the Wizard needs line of sight to the target)...’. Is a character riding in a chariot (or upon a monster) considered ‘one model’ for purposes of this spell, thus requiring a roll to randomly determine whether the chariot/monster or the character is hit
by the spell? Or may the casting Wizard directly target any portion of the model that he wishes to?
A. The spell hits the multiple-part model, and then the hit must be randomised amongst the different ‘parts’.

Think that should clear it up I guess.

Follow on question though, which I always seem to get into it with Tomb King players. If a Steg charges into a unit of Tomb Guard with a Tomb King with the Destroyer of Eternities, does he inflict 2 automatic hits on each crew member, the character and the steg if he is in BSB? I argue it doesn't, as it should only be 2 attacks on the character and the steg, as it is really "one model" but the counterarguement comes from the Bloodskull pendant FAQ again as:

Q. Bloodskull Pendant: If a character with this item is in a challenge, can he use it on those in base to base with him that are not in the
challenge?
A. Yes. In reality, he is using it against the challenged enemy, and any hits against other models the bearer might be in base contact
with are entirely accidental… honest!

Thoughts?

2 attacks on the model, allocating which part of the model you want to hit.

This makes me wonder about another Nugle spell, and how it affects multipart models. If you cast cloying quagmire on a model that is made up of monster, and rider, which Init. value do you use to make the test with? The monster or the rider?

You use the best Init.

Correct. It was in the 2008 FAQ.
