Hi,
What are you guys standards for painting armies? I personally prefer to get a whole army done quickly at a tabletop level, rather then spending hours on each model and painting them to Golden Daemon standards.

It varies. I have some armies that were thrown together on the quick, just to get a playable force in the least time possible.

Others are more of an ongoing project, that I spend a bit more time on to get them just right.

I am a table top kind of guy for the most part, but I try to make them look good too. somewhere in between I guess?

Im the same, I paint very slowly, and I work each model to the best of my ability, but Im no way near 'Gold Daemon'. So table top quality +?

Get the army ready to use on tabletop as I WILL NOT field an unpainted model.

Characters get extra time spent on them. Grunts get the basics (but a uniform basic. minimal highlights).

I paint to make them look ok at 60cm or more, not to look good from less than 20cm. It's like theatrical makeup.

Dioramas are a different matter. They are meant to be seen from a closer distance.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

I paint less now so take more time on every miniature. But to me "tabletop" quality is achieved best by being neat. A bit like colouring in a picture with pencils and keeping within the lines, you're not expected to produce the Mona Lisa. My Black Templars looked grand when they were painted all black, white shoulder pads and grey highlights. Suprisingly effective when done neatly. If anything, over-complicating the miniatures can achieve the reverse effect of wanting the army to have a high impact at a glance.

Yes I believe in fielding painted armies but if the result is like gak figures with paint effortlessly splattered all over them you're still missing the spirit of it.

I take far to long on every model I paint. So the few that are done look fantastic.

simple units dont take too much time just quickly through them, though character and special units i would spend more time on

I play orks so paint ght Boyz is pretty basic. I dont waste a TON of time on each ork boy but they do look pretty nice standing on the table. When it comes to my Kill Kans, Deff Dreads, and the like, I take as much time as i need to make the model look really awesome. I'm more into the "heavy" units and the HQs.

I try to paint above the standard tabletop level. Lately, I've been doing a bit of experimenting with some stuff I've learned in my art classes(for example, my NMM attempt on my Justicars, see here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/265037.page), which can excuse a drop in quality when combined with just how busy I am lately, but overall, I try my best to get the best out of my minis.
