Last week the prime minister had a rant against those who would oppose him from signing the Copenhagen agreement on friday, despite his own admission that he hasn't read the draft legislation or what it will mean for us if we sign (also Turnbull, the opposition leader and Penny Wong, the climate change minister, have admitted they haven't read it either )
It was then revealed on Saturday when someone actually read the draft that we are to pay (at current money) 7 BILLION DOLLARS per year every year to the UN (this is because we cannot meet the 1990 level targets set due to our expected population increase) who will distribute the money to third world countries including China who build a coal fireed power station every fortnight.
Once signed we can not get out of the agreement unless every other signiatory allows us. HA!
I don't know about you guys but I think the government canwaste 7 billion dollars per year in a better way than just giving it to the UN.
So there is an email spam campaign on at the moment to try and get Mr Rudd to at least work out what the hell he is signing us up for.
Mr Rudd's email:
http://pm.gov.au/PM_Connect/contact_your_pm_form
The form letter being sent.
(Americans/other countries replace 'Australian' with whatever nationality you are)
Dear Mr Rudd,
I am an Australian who respects reason and evidence, and who wants this nation to prosper - and not squander its wealth.
On Friday I heard you say there is now a group of ”opponents of climate change action ... active in every country” that is “powerful enough to threaten a deal on global climate change both in Copenhagen and beyond”.
I would like to join this group. Can you please tell me where I can enrol?
Signed....
I'm sure he has a lackey to just write up a form letter and email it back. But when governments want to throw on a new tax (expected to be bigger than the GST) and give away our money as well whilst we have no idea what is going on, its just dopey.
As for every other developed country in the world, if you live there you will be hit up with bills as well, .7% of GDP.
USA with your 14.2 trillion dollar GDP- you will be paying 100,000,000,0000, (100 billion)

Would that I had another option over Malcolm or Kevin.
Malcolm's my mother's 2nd cousin. And a douche.
Kevin is no relation - other part is a match, though.
Can we just start by nuking Canberra and starting over?

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

Bush wouldn't sign that piece of trash agreement.
Apparently the conference is now being touted as a 'meeting of heads of state', with little chance of anything actually happening.
Remember that there have already been 3 lead up conferences (Barcelona just finished) to work through this stuff, with 10,000 delegates from around the world.
Snouts in trough.
Its in their interest to not get anything up and running, so they keep a (huge) paycheck and travel to cities around the world.
Just like the IPCC's job as mandated by the UN is to get countries to sign up for climate change agreements, NOT to offer objective measurement/investigations. Automatically Appended Next Post: The IPCC wouldn't have much to do if they said 'Gee sorry guys but the world has actually been cooling for the last 10 years. Lets all have a rest for awhile and come back in 10 years to see what has happened'.

Build some nuclear plants instead. Then build nuclear plants in China.
Then tell the UN they can suck it.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. Some of it comes back to pay for the coal we export, but not enough to offset the amount we'll be paying.

Australia has a GDP of 1.02 trillion, which at .7% equates to almost exactly 7 billion dollars.
The amount to be given to third world countries is based on 0.7% of the Gross Domestic Product (so our entire economy) NOT our tax revenue which is 290.6 billion dollars
As an aside the government is spending 338.2 billion to put us back into deficit after it took almost a decade for the last government to get us back into the black. :(
