I have been repeatedly told off about the stae of my desk, as there is often warhammer all over the place. I saw the paintstation while looking through the GW website, but there was no indication of how big it actually is. Does anyone have any measurements?

"You have commited the ultimate heresy. Not only have you turned your back on the Emperor and stepped from His light, you have profaned His name and almost destroyed everything He has striven to build. You have perverted and twisted the path He has laid for Mankind to tread. As your own decrees have stated, there can be no mercy for such a crime, no pity for such a criminal. I renounce your lordship. You walk in the darkness and can not be allowed to live. Your sentence has been long overdue, and now it is time for you to die."

I think it's about a foot by 8 inches by 4 inches. I saw one at the GW here the other day at the painting table. They aren't anything more than 1/8 inch thinck fibre board held together with glue.
If you have access to a drill, a power saw (jig, band, etc) You could probably make your own that would be any size you design it and a lot more endurable.

Small. if your desk gets complaints a painting station will help a, bit but not in any stagering proportions.

Hmm ...I have a GW paint station and unless they've dramatically changed the size mine is much larger that 4x8 inches.
I don't have it at my apartment here but I would guess it is approximately 30x18 inches...
Check out this photo (not mine):

Out at walmart you can buy wooden tv trays. I've owned quite a few of them and know a lot of people who have them, so I would guess everyone has seen one. The paint station sets down on top of those just about perfect.
My TV tray in the living room is 19x14.5 inches. So somewhere around there.
