Subject: The Prisoner • AMC • starts tomorrow evening
Looks like it will be a remake of the original series from the 1960s. I have the original series on DVD. The previews certainly look quite interesting. It was kind of spy versus spy and the ultimate spy turned out to be the prisoner. I don't think I'll be able to catch the first episode so I'll probably TiVo it so I can watch it when I get back.

A remake of "The Prisoner"? How did I miss this? The original series is one of my all time favorites. ( Dives into the murky depths of the Interwebz to find more info...)

I watched that show religiously as a kid in the 60's. I couldn't understand half of it but I loved it.
I heard later the character of number 6 was the spy from an earlier series called "Secret Agent".

I don't think the old show really appealed to too many youths (except us ) I thought Patrick McGoohan did intend The Prisoner as a sequel to Secret Agent/Danger Man in spirit, even using many of the same actors and character phrases (his own)? Even though it is not an official sequel.
I think the overall themes in the original are pretty universal (especially in modern society as a whole) and I always liked Caviezal so we'll see (fingers crossed).

Patrick McGoohan starred in a spy series called Danger Man before he did The Prisoner. There are links between the two series.

I loved the original series because it was very cerebral. The main character had a well developed sense of morals and try as they might they could never break him down. He always had a way of turning the tables on them. I thought the show was quite Orwellian but the main character had balls unlike the sod in 1984. The final episode was epic.
