Hi I'm Chris just started collecting 40k space wolves, never played a game before but i have painted imperial guard cadians before this. Was hoping for a little help with a few questions ive browsed over any and all space wolves topics and checked over other peoples army lists but as far as i can see nothing seems to be a strong list all round, basically I was hoping for info on:
Rune Priests - how many to field?
Dreadnoughts - which weapons reccommended if im fielding 2 and should 1 be a venerable?
Wolf scout pack - could i legally field 2 packs of 5 scouts?
LoneWolf - I realy liked the sound of this but the reviews ive seen so far have all been negative?
Bloodclaws - are they worth taking considering grey hunters are priced the same at 15per model?
Lucas the trickster - is it worth fielding blood claws with lucas he seems awfully expensive for a walking bomb? lol
Fast attack - which units should i go for? i was thinking 2 skyclaw assualt packs of 5 as they seem cheap
Drop pods or Rhinos or a mix of the 2?
heavy support im going to worry about once i get the above sorted as i currently only own 40k rule book, space wolves codes, and a box of space wolves but as christmas is soon upon us i should have a decent army by january and alot of painting ahead of me, currently only painted 1 wolf which i intend on making the pack leader its took me over 12 hours including viewing forums and codex ect, but im wanting them a good standard for a noob ive got taste
any and all help would be of great help
Much Aprechiated
Chris

Welcome aboard, fellow son of Russ. Do a search on your question topics and if nothing comes up, post a thread in the appropriate section. But with all the SW talk lately, most of your questions are bound to have been already answered.

Hey Chris, welcome to Dakka. I'm still a fairly new member of the site yet, but, have been gaming on and off for the last 12 years or so.
Yes you can legally field two units of 5 scouts.
As far as the rest of your questions go, my answer would be that it really depends on how you use what you field, and the circumstances of the game you are playing, and the play style you want to go for. Everything is based on your own personal preferences. Now, I know there's a lot of this and that going around as far as what's "good" and what's "bad", but, in the end, play what you want to play, and develop your own style.
My personal favorites from the SW codex though are:
Ragnar Blackmane
Arjac Rockfist
Blood Claws
But, these suit my play style(I played Blood Angels for a long time, so, I really have an affinity for assault oriented armies, it's just my thing is all).
Anyways, welcome to the site, and have fun.

Welcome to Dakka Chris!
I've been playing Wolves since the new codex was released, and I would say that firstly decide on what style you want to play, and build your army from their.
I'm not a huge rune priest fan, but I do take one in a 2000 pt army, just for variety.
Two scout packs are fine, use them wisely. A tactic I like is to use fenrisian wolves to support your scouts.
Fenrisian wolves are very good at throwing the enemy advancement into confusion. With te ability to get into combat on your first turn, and a stat line like a marine, they can do serious damage!
I would take pods over rhinos. If you take wolf guard, consider a dedicated LRC. Stick a wolf priest in the pack, and take wolf claws, and you get re-rolling to hit AND to wound power weapons with 4 attacks each on the assault.
If you are taking any unique characters, base your army around him.

thx for the good advice ravage ive looked over alot of battle reports and it seems that drop pods are the best option for wolves, but also on the GW articles theres a long range army of wolves which i also may collect so ive got a short and long range army

Hi there welcome to dakka.
I just started pups too and I personally prefer grey hunters as I find them more tactically useful but it really depends on personal preference.
