These are my first Tau figures I own (just purchased last week), and a note that also these are my first unassisted paints (probably starting with my third paint). I started out with the gun drones, testing out my tau colour scheme of white witha secondary of mordian blue, highlighted with ultramarine blue/enchanted blue and finally highlighted with a mix of enchanted blue and space wolf grey. I did a few blue washes throughout it keep the edged crisp but its very hard to catch the exact borders on those pulse carbines (naturally shakey hands, even with my elbows on the table and wrist locked rigor mortis). I am somewhat disappointed with the kroot shaper's pule rifle as it isn't as clean cut as the pulse carbines on the gun drones but I think it's a good tabletop standard nonetheless. It was hard to mix and remember all the colors I used on the kroot shaper: many different greens, browns, greys and blues (the pulse rifle was an attempt to mimic my gun drone's color scheme, might have gone better with another dirtier look but I wanted to keep it uniform). I didn't use metallic paints because i dislike the glossy effect, i prefer a matte finish and simply blended my greys on the blade to give it a shapened effect (different ratios of chaos black and skull white, progressively lighter). The skin was an orchide green base with progessively lighter shades. The mask was a 'granite' foundation paint (can't remember the full name) which I highlighted progressively. I am particularly pleased with the leather, but I missed out some of the robe (due to the hard-to-reach nook under the knife) which I intended to turn into a nice tan robe with a bleached bone highlight.

I sort of went free-for-all with the kroot shaper...half the time i didn't know how it was going to end up but I am all over pleased by the end result. I like the way my experimental colour scheme worked with the gun drones and hope it works just as well with future fire warriors and crisis suits. I intend to make the kroot shaper's base swamp-like with perhaps some grass and grit, I'm thinking it would complement the green-brown colour scheme.

I love it. I really like how you gave the drones a futuristic and advanced feel. I can imagine them wizzing around shooting enemies. Keep up the work!
