I was flicking through the GW website, when, to my amazement, I found something which you didn't have to buy. It was all the Apoc datasheets. I was wondering. When people have actual apoc games, do you use these datasheets, and if so, are they any good?

Yes, no and maybe.
For example 4000 emperor class titan is great ... if you're playing 8000pts games. Any less and it becomes one sided (or you don't have the points to take him)

It's not bad PotMS lets you fire the demolisher cannon in addition to every thing else that's allowed to fire. To be honest fluff wise any chapter may have them. It sounds like the perfect weapon combination for salamanders.

The demolisher cannon is still an ordnance weapon so you can't fire that together with the other weapons. (you could fire one other thanks to PotMS)
PotMS is not the same as Lumbering Behemoth.
The twin-linked heavy flamers are better than redeemers against 4+ saves but worse against 3+ saves. However, you're rarely going to be firing them as you're going to be firing the demolisher or the demolisher+assault cannon.

This has been debated here on dakka before and i'm wondering why you don't think it does? PotMS allows you to fire one additional weapon then you would normally be allowed. I choose the Demolisher cannon to be fired by the machine spirit.
Feel free to explain why you don't think it works but from a rules stand point it does.

If you fire an ordnance weapon then you can fire no other weapons. Demolisher + one other is one more than normal. 2x flamers + ac + demolisher is three more than normal. PotMS does not take away any of the restrictions that the weapons have. Nor does it have the extra weapon fired afterwards. All the weapons are fired together subject to all the normal restrictions except that one more than normal can be fired and one weapon may be fired at a different target. ETA - this thread is the wrong place for this. If you want to discuss it further then we should take it to PM or YMDC.

The Battle sheets have always been a point of 'interest' for me. The eldar war-walker unit, Shadow Walker, is ridiculous. Not even funny for a 50 pt formation. The Shadow Sect of Karadras, in conjunction with The Shadow Weaver, is sooo cool to play with, not very powerful but is awesome. I've had the most experiance with the Stompa Mob. 3+ Stompa's in a formation (so Choice!) and of course the Kustom Mek Stompa rules from Jan-WAAAGH-ary.
But in my mind, apocalypse data-sheets are for making the game more interesting. Not Uber powerful. That 8000 pt titan. Would not be very fun to play against. To many insta-killing, no coversave str-D weapons.

The Emperor Titan is potentially the most cheesy unit in the game. With 6 laser blasters and 2 vengeance cannons, it has enough destroyer weapons to kill a Warlord titan fully shielded in a single shooting phase.

I say fair game to all apoc datasheets provided by GW. I also say fair game to all homemade apoc datasheets, as long as they have been previously approved and are on the official GW paper.

Congratulations, your dismissive and conclusory commentary has provided nothing to this discussion or the wider community on whose behalf you arrogantly presume to speak nor does it engage in any meaningful way the remark it lamely targets. But you did manage to gain experience points toward your next level of internet tough guy. |
