Today I found a large quantity of mini's for sale. They are metal, marked GW 1987, and have the name of the unit stamped in the base tab. Some are orks, space goblins?, squats, and early imperial guard. Also one was marked as a space thug?

Could someone please tell me where I can find a complete listing of GW's 1987 releases so I can see if these are worth buying?

Thanks!

Look through here and you should be able to find them. They've got catalogs from years and years back.

Thanks for the quick reply. I looked through there and only found some of the mini's. Any other websites?

No pics, I did not purchase them as they were not attended by the owner- I would make a deal with them if I knew it was worth the price. I will buy a few next time I am at the shop and post photos to make it less of a guessing game.

Is there anywhere I can search for the minis by name?

Yes, some of the space orks from that site are part of the pile that I found today. Though, there were alot of oddities, such as a space thug(?) and strange imperial guard types, and also one that was specifically marked space goblin (it looked like smallish ork with a mini machinegun). There are 30-40 minis, being sold for 3 for $5.00; Is there any way that would be worth the price?

If there are Squats in there, then yes. It's worth it. The RT-era IG is less valuable. Same with Orks and Marines. The "Space Goblin" is likely one of the early Gretchin. I have a few of them laying about. There were a number of 40k "oddities". The Space Thug was one of them. You can find references, although not prices, for them at the different sites referenced by folks above. Between SOL and the CCM Wiki, you should have just about every RT-era figure out there.

Without pix, though, it's going to be hard to get a sense of whether or not the lot would be worth buying at those prices. 'Course, I'm guessing you're looking to buy it in order to sell it, no? If you're buying it because you actually want the figures, then you just have to ask yourself if you want the figures enough to pay the asking price... If you want to try to resell them for a profit, you'd need a much better idea of what's in there. RT-era figures vary widely in their going prices sometimes based on all but unnoticeable changes made to a figure to make a new, but rare, variant.

Thank you for all the information. Some figures I would like to keep, some sell. You guys will be the first to know what I pick up.

The "space thug" appears on the Rogue Trader Adventurers, Mercenaries & Pirates page listed as "punk". There was a number of other strange units. I remember one labeled as "servitor" that had a claw hand. This is quite a stack of mini's. I do not know if I will be able to buy all of them- Anyone have any requests for rogue trader era minis? Knowing what to look for would help immensely.

Most of the RT minis dont really sell at all on ebay because they're so abysmally awful in quality

Now, some of the actually unique models sell okay like the original little avatar.. squats always sell but not a lot else

Very few people prefer the "we melted a blob of pewter to form a model..sorta" aesthetics of RT models vs the high quality stuff of today

I would hardly call the early metal SMs "sorta models".

If you can pull out some of the old Imperial Guard Rapiers, or Thudd Guns or the like, those can be worth something.

Ok thank you also for the idea. It will likely be Thursday when I go back to the shop, or at the latest, Sunday.

It is also worth mentioning that many OOP Codexes have comprehensive (visual) lists of miniatures - VERY useful for the collector! (2nd Edition Dexes, especially). This is why avid hobbyists find it invaluable to collect the older dexes for all the armies that interest them, and perhaps for a hated opponent's army, too...

I am not sure if I will make it to the shop today- its possible, just depends on how my jobs pan out. I will definately buy squats, and genestealer cult(if there are any, I am relatively certain there was no "nid" type genestealers) There are orks, but I will not get any unless someone has a specific request.

Thanks for all the info

So I purchased three squats. Pictures to come soon. Some of the others were picked over, but there are a few other squats, some orks and space pirates.
