OK, this may be cheating.

95% of the building and painting here in the beginning was not done by me. I hired my friend Meg (goldnethronestudios.com) to paint a full Ork army for me while I sit in the desert all cranky because I can't paint anything here.

So she sent me these pics today and I figured I would share them with everybody. My 'GrimToof Hookas'.

As it stands, there are still a good number of models to go: Kommandos, Killa Kans, A bunch more grots, 20-30 Ork Boyz including some OOP Madboys, A Deff Dread, warbikes, Battlewagons, a pair of Stompas, and bunch of FW goodness.

There are even some Ebay acquisitions picked up while I'm out, that I'm going to have to attend to when I get back. I'm going to try to get some more WIP photos from Meg (espescially WIP BW head Stompa).

GrimToof Hookas just shy of Green tide size, but theres another Boyz Mob I've already finished and left sitting at home.

Grots

Burna Boyz

Mega-Armored Nobz

At some point in January I'll start basing them, and dirtying them up some more. I specifically stated that there were certain things I want to work on myself - small details and what not - so that they still feel like mine when the model is complete.

So now I'm back from overseas, and can work on projects of my own now.
At the end of the month I'm participating in a two day Planetstrike event. I will be primarily faced with Nids and Orks.
I've got to get 1500pts normal force org, and two 350pt sidebars together. While a majority of my Space Marines are up and running, I wanted to make some fun additions.
So far I need to get two Sergeants up, a Venerable Dread converted, and a significant amount of PS terrain.
Bear in mind I have not played 40k in 8 months, and not played Planetstrike at all. So anyone got any modeling tips, tactical ideas whatever, I'm more than happy to hear from you.

So as the wife is watching Greys Anantomy, I may retire to the Fortress of Redemption and paint...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The remainder of the night went into making this guy. AoBR Dread at the core, now Venerable. Need to track down a Dread Missile Lancher bit to make the box for the other Autocannon arm.

Impressive ork army. The camo works very nicely. Dread looks like it is coming along nicely too.

good looking stuff on the orcs, and very promising on the SM. Don't worry if you hired somone I know the feeling on painting in the desert...IT SUCKS!!

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

I'm really bad about keeping up with this blog... Started working on a FW Pre-Heresy Land Raider conversion. Taking a bit of idea work from littleboyblues work, I tried out some free hand. Will do an overall shot in the next few days. Unfortunately I feel like the Deneb stone in the front makes it look too Blood Raveny, and not Blood Angely enough.

From what I can see, You have done a fine job on your freehand.

As if on cue, you hear two people singing from the stairwell, and the door is opened and a pair of very smelly, very dirty guardsmen stumble in, completely drunk, and covered in vomit, and immediately collapse unconsious on the porch. You drag them to their beds, realising that they will not be waking up for some time.

Yeah, clarity is an issue. I'm working on it.
I've got two more Land Raiders to work on coming up, as well as an original RT Land Raider. The lascannons are broken, but I may apply some Hurricane Bolters or Flamestorm Cannons instead.

I finished working on my Mega Dread tonight. Wife misplaced the camera sadly. I'll be loading a pic as soon as possible.

Well, sadly, Mega Dread is sitting in the display case at my local GW. Not because its so well done or anything, but because I didn't feel like bringing it back home one day. I haven't explored all of my Battlefoam storage options for it yet.

In the meantime, I've been reworking some of my Ork stuff. The rusting technique done over nearly the entire body of the Mega Dread turned out so nice, and now I want to make the rest of my vehicles fit in with it. So I've been rust coating the entire model, and then painting over it on certain panels with various camo paterns/Ultramarine parts.
(Because who really likes Ultramarines?) Mega Dread did get a Newcastle beer logo too, but I dont know if I'm going to make that a recurring thing or not.

This guy was an Ebay rehab job. It had been undercoated black and drybrushed Boltgun Metal when I got it. Some parts have broken off recently, but I'm on it. At this point I need to do some stippling with macharius orange, and then a devlan mud was. And add the details.
The driver is as I received him. Haven't touched him yet.

This is one of the FW Nob Bikers. Some of us are talking about playing some GorkaMorka coming up, so I'm feeling inspired to Orkiness. Hes in the same stage as the previos model. However I had already painted it when I decided I wanted to do all of this rusty stuff. So I'm going over all of the metals, and leaving camo on top for the most part.

Still WIP as well, my Sanguinary Guard just had their shoulderpads applied. I'll be working on the wings shortly... before gluing them on. The one below you may notice, has the red hand. This isn't so much a Khaela Mensha Khaine thing as a reference to a Nick Cave song. Not a huge fan, but a lady that took my singles danced to it and it stuck in my head - now occasionally showing up on my models.

I haven't updated in far too long, maybe thats a good thing. I don't know yet.

I recently bought a shoebox full of Orks for $100. A majority of the models are unpainted, and most are already primed. There was a looted Rhino in there, 140 Slugga/Choppa's, 20 Shootas, 20 Nobs (Black Reach and newer plastic), AoBR Warboss, and a squad of Burna's.

After getting them home and doing a layout on the kitchen table (before the wife got home to yell), I got curious where I was at with everything else.

Back in the early/mid 90's I'd see pictures in WD of a full company of SM's, or in one case, the entire Ultramarine Chapter, with transports! I wanted to make my own Company of Marines (and thus a hoarder was born). And now I have nearly achieved, and some...

I did a layout on my Blood Angels, and have the requisite 6 Tac Squads, 2 Assault Squads, and 2 Devastator Squads. I just need to paint the two 5 man combat squads for the Devs and I'm golden!

But then I got to looking at my Terminators...
I'm not far off a 1st Company either! I've got AoBR Termies all over the place, 2nd Ed Space Hulk (on the smaller bases), and 3 boxes of new Space Hulk Termies.
(My dad was mad they used BA's for the new Hulk, and just gave them to me, saying he'd rather use his old RT DA's instead... I'll not complain).

Also, I have a full squad of Sternguard, and a 5 man Vanguard.

What I want to do right now, is get another squad of Sternguard up and running, and get 15 Vanguard out there.

To start this I picked up a lot of Chaos SM bits, as the armor has the older, more venerable look to it. I've mixed this with a fresh box of Death Company bits and some stuff picked up from Maxmini, and Chapterhouse Studios.

The Sternguard Squad is getting completely kitted out with Chapterhouse combi-weapons. I recently played in a game where I gave 6 combi-flamers, and 4 combi-meltas. I KO'd a Battle Sisters heavy weapons squad in turn one between 2 flamer shots and two combat squads worth of rapid fire... I completely forgot about special issue ammo.

These combi-weapon models work out nicely, and are completely modular. A rare earth magnet holds on the flamer portion, and it can be switched out for melta/plasma/grenade in seconds. Magnets are even included! It did, take a few twists of the pin vice to make the hole in the lower receiver a bit deeper, as it stuck out a hair too much. But in all, I'm pleased with the product, and would rather the hole start out too shallow, than be too deep and not connect well.

This is the squad Sergeant and one member with their combi-weapons. I ripped the Power Fist from some BT's a friend sold me... I'll try to make it look right. probably just use the chain for more of the 'BA dangly stuff'.

Here is part of the Vanguard. These are all Maxmini heads I believe.

Here is a promotion in action! The model on the right is an old RT Sergeant model. I've had this guy for many years, leading my III Squad. Back in November, his Tac Squad sat on a defensive strong point holding my right flank against wave after wave of Tyranid monstrosities during the final battle of Chicago's GW Bunker, and their 'Bug Hunt' narrative campaign. (If they ever do it again, and you're invited to attend -DO IT). This guy lost his squad to successive waves of gaunts and tyranid warriors. But he would not go down, and just kept bashing away with his Power Fist, tar-pitting the enemy on my flank, and protecting the weakened warlord titan.

So he's getting a transfer to the newly formed Vanguard Squad, as its Sergeant! I'm probably going to work some Genestealer claw tropy into the model somewhere... preferably in my opponents color scheme.

In the center of the above image is a Blood Talon for my Death Company dread. I picked that up on ebay recently, but cannot recall the sellers name. I got a pair of them for a decent price, and they look good. I just need to figure out how I'm going to apply it. Here's another look at it.

Lots of work getting done. Part of it for the 'Marine swap', some of it just me trying to get these Veteran squads ready to go.

The Sternguard Sergeant with the SoB helm on his base earned that like a boss! In a game where I proxied that squad, the squads combi-flamers Turn-1'd a Celestian squad and left the death company free to focus on not getting shot up with heavy bolters.
