Well, atm, I am building my Traitor Guard w/ CSM allies 40K list, and come feb., I want to get into fantasy. Particularly Beastmen, since they will no doubt be designed w/ 8th edition in mind, and I just love their fluff. A band of mutated humans, out to kill just because they can.

So really, I want to hear everyone's thoughts on the Beastmen race atm: its strategies, its weaknesses, what its good at.

And also, what you want them to fix in the next codex, come feb. 2010.

Regards,

Edit: Also, I want to hear what they are really made to be played as in their codex currently, high elite unit counts, horde, lots of special/rare. Thanks.

Not sure what's going on your poll. I confess I didn't understand it.

With regards to the new book, I'm relatively pleased that they seem to be making an effort to focus on and expand the Beastmen theme (rather than a mix/match of random chaos monsters) and hope that the new troop types are adequately supported by new models.

I know they did a lot of new stuff for Skaven, but I cry foul over the lack of Hell Pit Abomination.

Well, I found the various Chaos Monsters quite suitable options to the beastmen, especially the Minotaurs and Harpies (they once could have those... don't have the info ready atm).

For strengths and weaknesses of the Beatsmen: They are the ultimate raiders fielding loose formations of excellent, but lightly armoured combat troops and atm have a very characterfull "ambush" special rule; if you include the right kind of character, you may keep units in reserve and use them to later attack the enemy in the rear. Their main strengths are manoeuvrability, suprise and a combat ability on par with Dwarfs (but a lot faster). They will be able to isolate enemy units and finish them off in combat. Their main weaknesses are that they're relatively unprotected (no save better than 4+ here), unruly (quite like Orcs and Goblins), have only and avarage leadership of 7 and oddly enough for the kind of force they represent, have no real missile troops (none at all? axe-throwers/javelineers?). They will just run away or fight amongst themselves at certain times.

As for the poll... Niouwhuh-what? Poo? Coo? It's very poetic
But not really easy to make sense of.

I also do not understand your poll options, so I can't help you there.

I am also quite sad that, apparently, the big gribbly monsters are being removed from the list.

And really, any attempt to cover this up with a fluff justification pales before the truth that it is a Beancounter decision that began back when GW first figured out that they could (attempt to) force WFB Chaos players into fielding (and buying!) 3 separate armies.

If you need proof, look no further than the fact (OK, not confirmed yet, but what is the Internet for if not flying off the handle without 100% knowing for sure if I should?) that the plastic Giant is still in the list!

Er, OK...

Where are the Big Gribbly monsters if not in the beastmen list Alphy? I say that as I am also interested but would really like to field a bunch of converted dragon ogres and shaggoths I have.

I'm considering the beastmen also depending on the list and the book. I have lots of converted ungors and a chariot guy and some spawn creations which might be intriguing. But not being able to field my Shaggoths would be displeasing.

Which is why you're then supposed to field a Mortals of Chaos list, to use all of your trolls, ogres, dragon ogres and Shaggoths.

If you used to have Deamons too? Well, please purchase a complete Daemons of Chaos army, please!

Can't answer your poll, haven't seen the book yet. But if the new book follows the other army books it should be a good army.

I actually meant the current book, not the up and coming book.

For clarification, the poll options have been simplified with an extra letter, I just meant "Do you like them" and "No, they are a bad race"

Yes, removing Dragon Ogres, Shaggoths and Giants from Beastmen would seem incredibly daft given that the models have limited markets (ok, less of an issue for the giant which can also appear in Orc, Chaos Warrior and Ogre armies).

Guess it depends on how strongly they want to follow the Beastherds theme.

GW doesn't need to remove the characterfull big nasties to convey the Beastherds Theme, they are suitable special troops.
I do think the Beastmen should be able to use one or two very primitive missile weapon options to better convey that Raiders/Herd idea, Javelins at least and possibly a limited number of short bows...
