I'm having a hard time getting those tiny chunks out of my paints. I normally thin my paints (even my foundation colors) but I haven't had much success eliminating them. Any advice?

What are you thinning your paints with?

Just thinning them with water. GW paints tend to be a little thick for my liking. And, I would like to avoid having to replace all of my paints...but if that's the only way, I guess I must.

Try paint thinner, but if you are determined to use water, use bottled water. Because depending on where you live, water can sometimes not be the best method for thinning paints. For instance, I have well water. Which means that even though I use a water softener, I still get a little grit in my water.

Huh? I have citadel colors that are fifteen years old and they don't have chunks in them. I worry for you.

Am I right in thinking the chunks are small bits of pigment? Or is the paint you are using starting to harden? And you are using the water to soften it back up?

Do you wipe off excess paint (from your brush) onto the paint pot container? ...That will leave dried 'chunks' that will eventually get into your paint mix. Another reason why I'd recommend painting with a pallet instead of from the pot.

Sometimes I've had brushes that always gave me chunky paints for some reason - when I switched to a better brush the problem went away. This one Royal 'Sofia' brush that I eventually threw away because I kept forgetting and using it. The other thing was paper-towel lint/hair that was getting all over everything was causing bumps in my paint jobs.
