rust-brown (or all variations of brown, fo rthat matter) is actually a very dark form of red-orange. You could make it right from red and orange and black, or try mixing red, blue and yellow together, with jsut a bit more red (trust me, it really works).

Sweet thanks, im thinking of making a wash with some of that, maybe some boltgunmetal or dwarvern bronze and mixing with alot of water, and then brush on generously

I use scorched brown for a base, then a 1/1 brown/firey orange mix, then a straight firey orange.

I used it on the metal bits on the base of my CC Dread, and my nitty Gritty Predator.

I didnt use a wash, I stippled it on.

If you wanted to check the effect, look at my P&M blog - here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/244402.page.
Post pics of your rusty stuff once you get some done!

Heres my most recent version of my rust. I just use orange (I guess in citadel its blazing orange?) and dry brush it on the parts, then while its wet, I swipe my finger across it and basically wipe it off some. This works really well as it not only leaves rust color, but also makes the metal look worn. Then I use a black wash. I still need to re highlight as these are wips but you get the general idea anyways

Awhile back someone posted a thread where he had painted some really nice rust effects on the weapons. After a few people questioned him about it he did a quick how to guide that was really good. Anyone happen to remember who did that or where the post is now days?

Its spelt "Stippling" and according to GW's marketing for their special purpose brush... Stippling is a method of painting where you load the brush with paint and then apply it to the model in gentle 'stabbing' motions. This creates a light, dusty, effect on the figure perfect for rust and weathering.

Daedalusaf - Well its pretty simple to use. Just follow my steps and youll get it in no time.

Buttlerthepug - Its pretty much the same technique on the rusty parts. I just didnt use a black wash and a rehighlight on it like I WILL do on those guys up there.
