I have 3 Lascannon that I used to have in a Heavy weapons team. Since this is a high value target, it attracts alot of fire. If I split them up and include one in each of the 3 infantry squads in an infantry platoon, would that be a smarter choice?

Personally, the infantry squads can't do a great deal on their own, I would but them with the squads.

Just a first reaction, many people know much better on Dakka

Include on in each Infantry squad, then blob those squads together.

If they draw a LOT of fire, then they can be usefull as a distraction!

I personally like my Lascannon squads. I try to keep them clear of objectives with a supporting squad nearby and try to keep their lanes of fire open.

In a typical game, I deploy my army in one corner, with the two squads and a tank in the other. My opponents usually take the bait and divide their forces 50/50, giving up half their army to chase phantoms.

Put them in your infantry. In addition to ablative wounds, better leadership, and voxes, you have one less obvious benefit:

You can spread the lascannons out across a combined squad of 30, thus ensuring that at least one of them will be getting a side armor shot.

I don't know if I'd ever use lascannons in a blob'd infantry squad, but I'd certainly never ever use them in a HWS. It's just too expensive to give them to that fragile a unit. An opponent can easily eliminate an autocannon squad too, but it's cheaper and maybe lower on his list of priorities. If you want lascannons, put them in the infantry.

(but personally if I wanted them they'd go on scout sentinels, or on vendettas!)

Yeah, but scout sentinels don't get to twin link, and Vendettas don't get all the ablative wounds or that guaranteed side shot.

Whenever I take an infantry platoon, they're always on lascannon duty.
