I found this to be an interesting bit of discussion. This was originally gleamed from Blackmoor's Blog, but may not generate enough traffic (yet). It's the top 10 finishers in the UK GT. I think it is worth some points of discussion. I'd be interested in view from folks who actually attended:

1) Mark Burstall - Orks
2) Simone Di Tomaso - CSM
3) Kiam Reddy - Eldar
4) Felix Porras Munoz - CSM
5) Ricardo Bacelo Polo - Orks
6) Andrew Church - Blood Angels
7) Alexander Fennell - Imperial Guard
8) Manuel Andres Fernandez - Necrons
9) David Fairweather - Daemons
10) Gianni Vacca - Imperial Guard

On a personal note, it was interesting to see Orks take 1st and 5th even with the ruling that Deff Rollas do not affect vehicles. It's a pretty decent spread of armies that placed.

Its nice to seem several kinds of armies among the top 10:
Orks, CSM, Eldar, BA, IG, Necrons, Daemons.
Where are the SM and Nids?

Somewhere in south-central England.

I think it is worth looking at the entire field before forming any judgements.

For example, perhaps there weren't any SM armies at that round. Or suppose that 90% of armies entered were Necron?

Either is highly unlikely of course, but we have no information at the moment.

Nice one matey, well played.

I'd like to see the whole results thread. I think this is of particular note considering there are no army comp scores and points level are 1500 points.

What do you want to know? I was there on the Sunday and watched most of the top tables.

My impression was that while there were some tough armies present, this was not the deep fried cheese dinner that was Heat 1.

Personally, I don't consider any army cheesy. If it's legal, then it should be ok.

I'm curious to see missions, army lists, pics (hopefully) and some comments on general play and particular tactics.

The GT uses rulebook missions exclusively, with the mission type announced prior to the game. You play 2 of each mission and 2 of each deployment over the weekend.

All the games seemed very friendly, and I saw no arguments, with all rules disagreements being resolved amicably. There was an issue where a player that was heading towards a good qualification spot with Space Wolves suffered a 40 point penalty for an illegal list (he had failed to write down his psychic powers), otherwise a space wolf might have made the top ten. Top 3 finishers were Orks (double 5 man bikers, 1 wagon, 1 truck, stuff), Lashraider (single lash, raider, 5 oblits, stuff), Seerspam (eldrad, jetlocks & 8+ seers, 2 lords, troopy stuff).

Mark had a certain amount of luck in the final game, which was vs factory Kairos Krusher, but played the mission perfectly, using his wagon to tank-shock through to Kairos while engaging the bloodcrushers with the nobz. Counter to expectations Kairos refused to die while the krushers folded in spite of their re-roll. Themz the way the dice tumble sometimes. I really like the Ork build and would probably lean the same way with Orks were I to do them, but as I have an elder bikerspam army already its not a build I’m planning any time soon. Losing knocked the Karios Krusher list down to 8th or 9th I think.

The best army nomination painting standard was way better than me but poor compared to heat 1. However, I’ll caveat that with the facts that there were far more players at Heat 1, and the Crazy Spaniards were in attendance, and they can paint better than anyone else. I was pretty taken with some Monster trux style Orks though, and hope they won best painted. I’m sure pictures are online somewhere.

They didn't, prize went to SW twin raider + Termies

Andrew

Also the 'Head Umpire' (for want of a better term) went round every valk/vend player and informed them that the model had to be fully over the table, nothing was to hang off the edges.

How about Space Wolves.
Did they enter the competition or was the codex release too new?
Space Marines made a rather bad performance.

1500 points is a hard place for space marines. You can usually only have one "BIG THREAT" and if it gets neutralized your sunk. SM sweet spot is 1850-2000 IMO.

Yeah.
In the German GT, 1750 pt level, I recognized that almost all SM and CSM armies fielded one LR pattern tank.
In 1500 pt games, this is even a bigger point sink.
Usually it transports Termies. Then one third of the army is gone.

Interesting results. What does "2nd Heat" mean? Was this the final or are there other heats?

I don't know anyone at the end who saw the BA army, as his opponent was one of the wolf players who got docked points for an illegal list and decided to leave for home early, giving an automatic maximum win to the BA chap. This takes nothing away from that player, as he'd won 4 games and lost only 1 by that point.

Well, I guess you're right,
but I haven't seen a strong BA army since the jervisified codex came out.

Orks are very competitive, no doubt about this.

Is there doubt over Ork competitiveness? I don't pay so much attention to these discourses nowadays, but I certainly consider them top tier and can see them winning the GT. Who on earth thinks they aren't up to the job?

@Olympia: there are three Heats, with top 45 going to the final, where someone from Spain or Italy wins. I'm guessing Thunderhammers will probably win unless the new nids throw a big spanner in the works, but there are about 6 or 7 builds in contention atm on my understanding of the state of the game.

@westernfux: I didn't see many Space Marine armies, which may have helped the Ork showing. Comparative absence of Raiderhammers at this one.

The final positioning in the Heats is always a bit strange since if you want a shot at the top positions, losing will knock you down big time. P9 and P11 were in contention to win depending on how games unfolded.

I am more surprised about the apparently strong showing of Necrons, and lack of DE in the higher levels.

Though as I said earlier you really need to see the entire field (and the points spread) before forming a judgement.

One Dark Eldar player made table 3 for game 5, but lost to Simone's chaos. I was almost crying as I saw him set up his entire army when going second against all those oblits and the Land Raider, but apparently arriving piecemeal doesn't work. Castle and cover save for the win.
